If it's a day ending in "y" the chances are pretty good that someone is looking to file a lawsuit against EA. The latest is from a company named White Knuckle that claims EA's sports titles infringe on patent number 8,529,350. This software patent relates to recording "real-world parameters, then storing those elements on a server so players can download to update their games." The patent was filed originally in October 2002.
To put it simply, this means that White Knuckle has an issue with live roster and player updates that EA puts out for almost every one of their current sports titles. Specifically, the lawsuit targets NCAA Football 10 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 to the latest versions of each game.
This lawsuit sounds super generic and can apply across a huge number of titles. It really just sounds like a patent troll looking to score an easy buck with a settlement from EA. Here's hoping EA doesn't back down.
