Origin, as part of its ongoing "On the House" campaign, is now offering up a free copy of Plants vs. Zombies GOTY Edition.

It is the full game and it is yours to keep if you "purchase" it for the low price of $0.00 (USD). Simply click on "Get It Now" on the Plants vs. Zombies page and voila, it's yours. Yes, you will need to use Origin in order to play it.

Zombies are invading your home, and the only defense is your arsenal of plants.   I haven't used Origin in quite some time. Is it still so bad that they have to give away free games for people to use it?

  Origin hasn't been bad... since ... I don't know, ever? It's just people's hatred of EA that automatically started this nonsense that Origin was bad and only Steam should be in the digital distribution service!

  I personally remember seriously disliking the friends interface, and all things related to chat. I had no real problems with the store itself, but I always communicated with people over steam to play Battlefield. Also the fact that at one point the battlelog friends list and origin friends list wouldn't work together really irked me, I assume that's fixed by now. I will give it this though, Origin always pegged my internet connect when downloading patches, which is more than I can say for Steam.

  As an additional note to the Origin store, EA has a refund policy that is more flexible, and less focused on a case-by-case basis. Whereas Steam's refund policy is for damage control should the developer in question piss the world off, but otherwise sales are final unless you really twist the customer support rep's arm and step on their toes. Origin itself? It's all right. I'm somewhat indifferent about it, but I hate installing multiple platforms to enjoy a variety of PC games (same goes for Desura, UPlay, and PlayOnline). Same mindset about Steamworks on PS3 too; one more thing to install before enjoying a game.
