  • King Files to Abandon Its Trademark on the Word 'Candy'

    Perhaps feeling the heat of the Internet, King is now filing for express abandonment of its trademark on the word "Candy."

    The Candy Crush Saga developer confirmed the move to Kotaku.
    King has withdrawn its trademark application for Candy in the U.S., which we applied for in February 2013 before we acquired the early rights to Candy Crusher. Each market that King operates in is different with regard to IP. We feel that having the rights to Candy Crusher is the best option for protecting Candy Crush in the U.S. market. This does not affect our E.U. trademark for Candy and we continue to take all appropriate steps to protect our IP.

    I'm sure this has nothing to do with King filing an IPO with the New York Stock Exchange and wanting to not look like a bunch of bad guys.

        Filing an IPO with the NYSE, and maintaining their E.U. trademark for Candy? Ok so the King is still evil and continues to contribute to a broken and dystopian society. Next up? They'll trademark "The" and sue retroactively. Will a lawyer with any sense of a conscience please dethrone this tyrant and set an example of how broken the laws are? It's bad enough that the word "Saga" can only exclusively refer to the Saga series of games King produced (which are all identical, if you can see past the switched graphics).
