What's the deal with this news making the rounds today? The news I'm talking about is this bit about some alleged Valve insider telling Game Informer that Half-Life 3 doesn't exist.Really?
You don't say! This isn't anything new in the slightest. The interview, as it relates to the development of Half-Life 3 tells us very few new details.
Everyone wants Gordon Freeman’s story to continue. People want the series to reach the number three, either as an episode or a full-fledged sequel. How real are those chances?
There is no such thing as Half-Life 3. Valve has never announced a Half-Life 3. The closest they’ve come is after Half-Life 2, they said there would be three episodes. We only got two of those. That is arguably an unfulfilled promise. Anything else that we might think about as a full game or sequel has never been promised. I only mention that because it’s sometimes frustrating when people sort of assume or have wishful thinking about the future. Because they want to speak about the future, the fantasy starts to become real in their minds, even though they have a completely different form on the developer side.

Just let it go already. Valve's lack of any sort of cohesive organizational structure essentially guarantees that there won't be a Half-Life 3. Hell, it would be a miracle if the world ever saw another game from Valve period. At this point, there is little reason for Valve to ever make another game again because of how successful Steam and microtransactions through Steam have been.
Besides there is no way a HL3 would come close to the hype that is on it now. It would be the next Duke Nukem game.
And according to an "insider" people did attempt a sequel to Half-Life 2: Episode 2, only for them to give up because they couldn't surpass expectations on what a sequel should be, so they moved on to projects more interesting to them. And apparently this was a thing over and over again. This really does look like the next Duke Nukem Forever. I wouldn't really be excited for Half-Life. It'll be as awesome as Black Mesa Source's retail Zen world of awesomeness... Oh wait. That doesn't exist either.
