• SteamVR Performance Test is Live

Valve has just made live their SteamVR Performance Test to assess if your PC is ready for our virtual reality future.
The SteamVR Performance Test measures your system's rendering power using a 2-minute sequence from Valves Aperture Robot Repair VR demo. After collecting the data it determines whether your system is capable of running VR content at 90fps and whether VR content can tune the visual fidelity up to the recommended level. For machines that are not VR Ready the tool can help determine whether capabilities are bound by Graphics Card, CPU, or both.

For those wondering, the HTC Vive recommends the following PC specs:
• CPU: Intel i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 or better
• GPU: Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD 290 or better
• Memory: 4GB+
• Video Output: HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2 or newer
• USB: 1x USB 2.0 or greater
• OS: Windows 7 64-bit (SP1) or newer

Compare those to the Oculus Rift recommended specs:
• CPU: Intel i5-4590 or AMD equivalent or better
• GPU: Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD 290 or better
• Memory: 8GB+
• Video Output: HDMI 1.3
• USB: 3x USB 3.0 p orts and 1x USB 2.0 port
• OS: Windows 7 64-bit (SP1) or newer

For those wondering, it is possible to run the SteamVR Performance Test in full screen on your monitor. You can even control your movement as well. How? Simply add this to the launch options for the Test within Steam (right click SteamVR Performance Test under "Tools" > Set Launch Options... > Paste the following).
-noassert -retail -vrperftest -autofidelity +map vr_aperture_main -novr -fullscreen -height 1080 -width 1920

Obviously, you can change the values for your height and width based on your monitor's resolution.

Wait what? The Oculus Rift suggests more RAM and USB ports than the HTC Vive? Did I read that right? And are there certain video cards that meet the recommended specs, but lacks the proper HDMI output?

I tried this on my machine:

3960x @ 4.6
16GB 1866Mhz
ASUS RIVE
2 x GTX 780 SC

Told me my machine is only VR Capable because it wasnt a GTX 970 or better. I maintained a consistent 115-130 FPS throughout the entire demo and yet it gives me that generic crap because it didnt notice I had 2 x GPUs and my FPS was actually ABOVE the requirement?

Well, SLI tends to suck and is not supported by most software. A single card solution is probably going to be better in most cases, VR or not.
