  • Sledgehammer Games to Develop 2014 Call of Duty Release as Development Cycle Switches to Three Years

Previously, the development roles on the Call of Duty franchise alternated between Infinity Ward and Treyarch. Now, Activision has announced that Sledgehammer Games is coming in as a third developer for the series.

This will move the two year development cycle to a three year development cycle for each studio. Sledgehammer is already to finish up development on the 2014 installment of the series. So yes, while the development cycle per studio is at three years, there will still be annual releases of everyone's favorite FPS.
"For the first time, this years Call of Duty game, and future Call of Duty games, are being built on a three year development cycle," the publisher also revealed. 'There are several advantages to doing this, the first is, of course, quality. This will give our designers more time to envision and to innovate."

Ah yes, I anxiously look forward to that innovation that is promised! Innovation is one key aspect that has sorely been missing from the franchise for quite a number of years now.

MAN, that is twice today I hit the CANCEL button. I have never hit that button before in my life and now Ive done it twice.

Its been a long time since the development cycles, but I thought IW and Sledgehammer became like one after IW fell apart and sledgehammer stepped in. Im sure its been more than enough time to patch IW back up, but I don't see this cycle thing doing a lot for the game.

Unless rebooting the game and updating everything is part of the cycle for someone.

When posting in this quick reply box. Its "Post Quick Reply" "Go Advanced" and "Cancel"

It was weird because I never ever hit it before in all these years and then twice in one day.

I wasn't really clear what I was saying. I was trying to type my comment out is all and I did it again on another post.

Anyway, three year cycle may be fine but some serious changes should happen.

Huh. I've never noticed that Cancel button before. Why did you cancel though? Thought better of it and then decided to post something else anyway?

No, I planned to post what I put up. I had a little more about Sledgehammer from way back then. My muscle memory went right to it and clicked CANCEL. It erases the box really quick
