  • Battlefield 6 Open Beta Now Open to All

    That's like doubly open.
Details and an overview of what to expect for both beta weekends for Battlefield 6.

The Battlefield 6 beta is now open to everyone. Over the past two days, those with early access beta keys and those that had signed up for Battlefield Labs, have been enjoying time in the Battlefield 6 beta.

Now, it's your turn. Yes, you.

The Battlefield 6 open beta is now truly open to everyone on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. On the PC side, you can download and play through Steam, Epic, or the EA app.

I have already seen login queues reaching six-digits reported by some players. In my experience during the early access period, the queue did move quite fast no matter how many player it said were ahead of me.

It's also important to keep in mind that Battlefield 6 requires that Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 be enabled on PC. This is due a requirement for the anti-cheat measures used in Battlefield 6. Now, the anti-cheat team for Battlefield 6 has flatly stated that things like Secure Boot "are not a silver bullet" to stop all cheating. However, it is used as an added barrier to make it harder for cheat makers to create cheat programs and makes it easier for the anti-cheat to detect when they do.

Still, the anti-cheat team says that their Javelin anti-cheat has already stopped over 330,000 attempts to cheat or tamper with anti-cheat controls. That was just within the first day and a half for the early access. They also received over 100,000 reports from players of cheating in the first day and a half of the early access that they will use to improve their detection systems.

I didn't have time to play but thought I'd check the queue yesterday at 5pm eastern for shits and giggles.

      193,320. Jeez

They must've bumped up their login servers a bit because when I played with my buddies last night at like 8 pm ET - ish, there were only like 11K in the queue and I got in pretty quick again.

Saturday had 100k+ queues that ended in just a few seconds. Sunday had 10-100k queues that lasted 1-10 minutes. I have to assume this test is mostly an infrastructure test, so they're trying to figure out if it scales well enough on server hardware and how fast to spin up or bring down servers to compensate for changes in demand. So far, pleasantly surprised with it all. I'm not a big Battlefield player (last one I enjoyed was Bad Company 2, and that was mostly for the single player), but this one kept my attention throughout all four days. I'm looking forward to a new map & some new game modes next weekend.

My only complaints are around the UI. It's hard to tell when the game starts unless you're listening for a slight bass hit. Perhaps if I had music on, that'd be my cue. I wish I could edit loadouts in the after-match report instead of having to wait until the next level loads up & try to rush through it while the game is already going on.

Battlefield 2042 to Utilize New EA Anticheat in Season 6
    by Shawn Zipay
A new anti-cheat has entered the battlefield.

Electronic Arts just announced that they are working on implementing their own anti-cheat (or anticheat), into their current and upcoming multiplayer titles. Much like the simply named EA app, EA's new anticheat is called EA anticheat. Yes, that lack of capitalization is correct and slightly frustrating to look at.

The Battlefield 2042 team at DICE says that come the launch of Season 6 in October, the game will switch over...

Battlefield 6 Reviews - Solid Multiplayer, Terrible Single Player Campaign
    by Shawn Zipay
The multiplayer more than makes up for the "dull" campaign.

The initial batch of reviews for Battlefield 6 indicate that yes, Battlefield is back! This is assuming you ignore the "short," "disappointing," and "dull" single player campaign. At least the multiplayer component seems to more than make up for the massively disappointing campaign.

The average critical score on OpenCritic for Battlefield 6 is 84% with 92% of all critics...
