  • The Battlefield 6 Multiplayer Reveal Shows That EA Really Hates Helicopters

No, really. How many helicopters were either hit by an RPG, blown up, or crashed into buildings?

Well, Electronic Arts held their big multiplayer reveal stream for Battlefield 6 just moments ago. Right now, hundreds of streamers are streaming the game to their audiences on Twitch and maybe elsewhere online.

    Beta

First off, yes you can get access to the upcoming beta if you watch any of those streamers. You will need to watch any of the Battlefield 6 streamers for at least an hour before you'll earn the Twitch Drop to grab a beta code.

You will also be able to gain access to the closed beta if you ever signed up for the Battlefield Labs testing prior to today. The closed beta begins on August 7 with an open beta starting on the 9th for Steam, Epic, EA app, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

There will also be another beta weekend running from August 14-17. This second weekend will be open to everyone from the start.

Interestingly, there was one thing that the leak this week got wrong: You do not seem to get access to the closed beta simply by pre-ordering the game.

    Classes

Battlefield 6 will return to the more traditional classes we all know and love from games prior to Battlefield 2042: Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer. Each role will benefit from class-specific gadgets, signature weapons, and "dedicated training." That is, each class will get special bonuses, or perks, that align with their role.

    Kinesthetic Combat System

EA and the teams at Battlefield Studios have a fancy term for some of the changes and improvements they've made to movement and gunplay in Battlefield 6. Players will now be able to drag and revive players. Weapons will mount to the sides of walls and atop barriers to help steady their aim. You will again be able to roll upon hopping off of a moderate ledge height in order to soften the landing.

    Maps and Modes

Battlefield 6 will launch with nine maps for the dedicated multiplayer. A full list of the maps was not shared but we do know that the maps will cover a variety of global locations. Players will fight in Egypt, Tajikistan, Gibraltar, and the streets of New York. Included in the map list is at least one returning classic. Operation Firestorm from Battlefield 3 will be included in Battlefield 6.

Battlefield 6 multiplayer game modes include: Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush. There will also be less "All-Out-Warfare" focused modes such as Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination, and King of the Hill.

A new mode is being added in Battlefield 6. It's called Escalation and it will see two teams fighting to capture strategic control points.

    Portal

Yep, Portal returns from Battlefield 2042. This time Portal is quite improved with a suite of new tools that will allow players to "create completely unique content called Community Experiences." This isn't just limited to tweaking a few modifiers or sliders either. It seems as though you will be able to add, move, scale, rotate, duplicate, and do all sorts of stuff to a variety of placeable objects.

You will be able to create your own game modes and even customize the user interface for players (to a degree). During the presentation, EA showed off a custom game mode where they built road sections rising up into the sky while debris rained down from the top. The goal for players is to reach the top before others. You may be familiar with this sort of mode in other games such as Grand Theft Auto Online.

Battlefield Studios says that they will be releasing more modes, maps, weapons, and other features to the game "on a consistent basis."

    Pre-orders are Live

If you want to purchase Battlefield 6 now, you can do so. You can also wait and stick to the whole "no pre-orders" thing. Honestly, when it comes to Battlefield, that isn't exactly a terrible idea.

There is a Standard Edition that is $69.99 across all platforms. This includes the game and a Tombstone Pack pre-purchase offer.

There is also a Phantom Edition for $99.99 that includes the above plus access to a Battle Pass, 25 tier skips, four Phantom Squad skins, Shrouded Weapon Package, Drop Shadow Weapon Package, Glimmer Melee Weapon SKin, Chimera Vehicle Skin, Death's Head Weapon Sticker, Weapon Charm and Dog Tag, and a PHantom XP Boost Set.

    Firestorm

It's back and is in development from Ripple Effect. That's literally all we know.

      by Shawn Zipay
TwichCon 2018 officially kicked off today with a keynote presentation by CEO Emmett Shear. During the presentation, the company revealed a bunch of neat little statistics. More importantly, however, is the fact that they also revealed a bunch of new features coming "soon" to the Twitch platform.

Let's just get the statistic stuff out of the way first.

Battlefield 6 Reviews - Solid Multiplayer, Terrible Single Player Campaign
      by Shawn Zipay
The multiplayer more than makes up for the "dull" campaign.

The initial batch of reviews for Battlefield 6 indicate that yes, Battlefield is back! This is assuming you ignore the "short," "disappointing," and "dull" single player campaign. At least the multiplayer component seems to more than make up for the massively disappointing campaign.

The average critical score on OpenCritic for Battlefield 6 is 84% with 92% of all critics...

Twitch Flatly Refuses to Increase Streamer Share of Revenues
      by Shawn Zipay
      You'll get 50% and you'll like it.

Just yesterday, Twitch scored a few brownie points when they said they were going to ban some gambling on the streaming platform. It wasn't much but at least it was something positive. Today, whatever positivity remained was tossed out the window when Twitch flatly refused to increase streamer revenue share.

A petition signed by over 22,000 Twitch streamers and viewers sought to increase the subscription revenue share from 50/50 to 70/30...
