Great! Now about that game sequel...

Simu Liu revealed this past weekend that the script for the live-action film adaptation of Sleeping Dogs is "done." The news was shared by Liu on social media alongside a photo of his own sleepy dog and a carefully redacted image of the script itself.

Liu, whom you may know best as Shang-Chi from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) went on to say that the Sleeping Dogs IP owner, Square Enix, are "absolutely great." Liu continues, "It's the studios that don't seem to understand how important this IP is, but we will get them there."

Sadly, little else about the Sleeping Dogs movie was shared just yet from Liu. We do know that Story Kitchen is taking the lead on this live-action film. Story Kitchen really is no stranger to video game film and TV adaptations. The studio has worked on the Sonic the Hedgehog films, the animated Tomb Raider series, and more. Liu is set to produce and play the lead role of Wei Shen in the Sleeping Dogs film.

Hopefully this new live-action film actually goes somewhere. Back in 2017 an attempt to create a Sleeping Dogs film was made, which would have starred Donnie Yen. That project ultimately fizzled out. The game, Sleeping Dogs, was originally released in 2012 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Like most Square Enix published titles, it failed to meet an exceptionally high sales goal. This led to a sequel and later a spin-off both being canceled.

In the game, you play as Wei Shen, a police officer that goes undercover to infiltrate the Sun On Yee Triad organization. The game mainly focused on parkour movement abilities, martial arts moves for combat (with some gunplay opportunities), and an open world that allowed players to engage in legal and criminal activities.
