Square Enix launched a new Final Fantasy 9 25th Anniversary website. The anniversary website (currently only available in Japanese) went live with word that there are "various projects, including merchandise and collaborations to commemorate the 25th anniversary." Final Fantasy 9 originally released on the PlayStation back on July 7, 2000.
Thanks to the vague "various projects" referenced on the site, fans are getting their hopes up once again for some sort of a Final Fantasy 9 remake announcement to be made. The timing of the website's appearance has sparked additional speculation of some sort of an announcement during Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, 2025.
In 2024, Final Fantasy 14 producer Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida suggested that if Final Fantasy 9 were to be remade it would probably span multiple titles. That would be similar to what Square Enix has done with the Final Fantasy 7 remake, which has a third and final part still to be released.
Right now, all fans can do is wait to see what Square Enix announces for this Final Fantasy 9 anniversary celebration.
