Oops, almost forgot about this one.
Hi, yeah, sorry about this late one. I almost forgot about this new reveal from Naughty Dog that was also made as part of The Game Awards last week. That's my bad.
Naughty Dog revealed a new sci-fi IP that they've been working on. It's called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This game will be the start of a new franchise and the first game is currently in development for PlayStation 5.
The announcement trailer introduces players to Jordan A. Mun, a "dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Semphiria - a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago." They continue to say, "Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit."
Beyond that, Naughty Dog isn't saying anything about the game's storyline.
Mun is played by Tati Gabrielle, whom you may known from the TV series The 100. Gabrielle also portrayed Jo Braddock in the 2022 Uncharted live-action film. It also appears as though Kumail Nanjiani, Tony Dalton, and Halley Gross also have prominent roles in the game.
The soundtrack is being worked on with a collaboration with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. This duo previously worked together on soundtracks for Challengers and The Social Network.
In speaking with The New York Times, Naughty Dog lead Neil Druckmann states that Intergalactic is inspired from classic late 80s and early 90s anime such as Akira and Cowboy Bebop. This should explain the heavy 80s aesthetic going on throughout the trailer. It could also help explain the obvious product placement of brands, music, and products that were popular in the late 80s.
The trailer included Jordan's Adidas sneakers If there is actually some plot point involving those product placements though really remains to be seen.
Druckmann says that they've had a team of over 250 employees working on Intergalactic over the past four years already. There is no word on a release date for this one just yet.
