Capcom made a surprise announcement last night at The Game Awards when they revealed a trailer for a new Onimusha game. The new game is called Onimusha: Way of the Sword and it will be the first new entry in the series since 2006's Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. The catch here is that while it was shown off last night, Onimusha: Way of the Sword won't be released until some time in 2026 at the earliest for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
Capcom aims to bring the series back to "a dark fantasy feudal Japan where samurai clash with the supernatural in cutting-edge combat." Way of the Sword takes place in Kyoto during the early Edo period. This locale has been "twisted into an eerie and unsettling place" that has been overrun by demons called Genma.
Last night's reveal trailer showed off a bit of action along with plenty of blood and gore. Capcom has not yet shared who exactly you will be playing as in this new Onimusha title. We will obviously have more on this one in the future.
