  • Expect Long Queue Times for Path of Exile 2 this Weekend

Over 1 million early access "redemptions" confirmed already.

A character shoots out a circle of fireballs around them at enemies in an isometric view of a game.

The Path of Exile 2 Early Access beta begins this weekend and it's already expected to be a queue simulator for a significant amount of time. Game director Jonathan Rogers of Grinding Gear Games warns that "there may very well be queues over the weekend."

This warning came alongside word that Path of exile 2 has already reached 1 million Early Access redemptions. That is to say, 1 million people have either spent $30 (at a minimum) to buy a supporter pack that grants access to Path of Exile 2 or they were granted access to the Path of Exile 2 Early Access release by having spent $500 in Path of Exile.

We’ve just reached 1 million Early Access redemptions. The support you have all shown for Path of Exile 2 Early Access is far beyond anything we could have ever predicted. However we want to be upfront with you all and let you know there may very well be queues over the weekend.(...)

We quite frankly don't know what our backend services are going to be able to handle as we go above a million users. Now, we've added more database shards, scaling everything we have up as far as it'll go. But we're really not sure what kind of limits we might hit. We never expected things to go this big during [this Early Access].
Rogers added that they will be "working as hard as we can" to resolve server issues. Still, expect some issues for a little while at launch.

Keep in mind that once this Early Access period is over Path of Exile 2 will be free-to-play as its predecessor continues to be. The whole monetization aspect for the Path of Exile games revolves around cosmetics and various quality-of-life addons such as storage expansion. The cheapest way to get into the Early Access release is $30 and it grants you access to the game and 300 points that can be used to purchase those aforementioned cosmetics or QOL upgrades. More expensive supporter packs grant more points and a variety of cosmetic gear.

Supporter pack options are available through Steam or directly through the Path of Exile website.

This expansion has grown to becoming a full blown sequel.

Path of Exile 2 has gone from being merely an expansion to the original Path of Exile to being a full standalone sequel. Announced at ExileCon 2019, Path of Exile was originally slated to just be an expansion to the free-to-play ARPG. With this weekend's latest reveal at ExileCon 2023, game director Jonathan Rogers says that the scope of Path of Exile 2 "continued to grow and grow."

      The decision was made...

As expected though, there are several issues preventing access.

Grinding Gear Games has officially launched the Early Access release of Path of Exile 2. Well, it's technically released but there are several issues that have kept players from actually playing Path of Exile 2 just yet.

First and foremost, a new client update is being deployed right now to address a crash issue that "would have affected a majority of users." This update is being rolled out around...
