  • The Witcher 4 Enters Full Production

The project has been in the pre-production phase for a couple of years now.

As part of their latest quarterly earnings presentation, CD Projekt Red shared that The Witcher 4 has moved on to "full-scale production" as of "several weeks ago." This is the good news that Piotr Nielubowicz shared with those on the earnings call this week.

Previously codenamed Polaris, the next entry in the Witcher franchise entered into the pre-production phase in early 2022. Very little about this next game has been shared publicly and today's news really doesn't change that. We know that CD Projekt Red is opting to use Unreal Engine 5 for the next game. As far as we know that is still accurate information. The company also said at the start of this year that they expected to have over 400 people working on the project by mid-2024.

As it currently stands, it's not even clear yet if the next game will be called "The Witcher 4." Officially, the project is known only as Polaris. While it would be the fourth mainline entry released, it is still possible that CD Projekt Red may change up the naming scheme for the next game.

Nielubowicz had this to say about the current development status.

I’m pleased to announce that several weeks ago it moved on to full-scale production. Of all our projects, this one is currently the most far along, and we’re starting the most intensive phase of development.

I wish to thank the team and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for further progress.
On Twitter, game director Sebastian Kalemba said that he was "thrilled to announce that Project Polaris has entered the full-scale production phase!" Kalemba's post was accompanied by an image of some coins with the added message to "stay tuned for what's on the other side of the coin!" That image can be seen above.
