Apparently the voice actor for Eva from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was never truly known for these past 20 years. The original credits listed a Suzetta Miñet as the actor behind Eva. As it turns out, that was a pseudonym for Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
The grand reveal came the latest episode of Metal Gear Solid Legacy Series. Host David Hayter sat down with the voices between Eva and The Boss, Jodi Benson and Lori Alan respectively, to talk about the original game and a bit about the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid Delta.
As Benson explains, it was suggested that she use a pseudonym for Metal Gear Solid given how closely her name was associated with more family-friendly content. Benson has been the voice of the animated version of Ariel since 1989's release of The Little Mermaid. This includes voicing Ariel across sequels, the Kingdom Hearts franchise, and several other projects. Benson was also the voice of Barbie in several Toy Story films.
Given how many Disney films and franchises she has been a part of, it's not too surprising to hear that a pseudonym was desired for her work portraying Eva in Metal Gear Solid 3.
The various projects that I am affiliated with in my career are sort of family-based, children-based. It was actually Kris Zimmerman Salter, our director, she kind of sat down with me and she was like, 'Maybe we need to change your name.'
Metal Gear Solid Delta is still listed as a 2024 release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Don't be too surprised if that release slips to 2025.
