Cyan Worlds, the creators and developers behind the Myst franchise, just announced that they are working on a remake of Riven: The Sequel to Myst. This "from-the-ground-up remake" will bring all of its complicated puzzles and adventure to both flatscreen gamers and those with VR headsets.

Cyan Worlds says that they are going to "blend the intricate puzzle-solving experience of the original with cutting-edge technology to create incredible visuals, a fully explorable 3D world, and the optional ability to jump in through VR platforms."

The original Riven was released back in 1997 for PC. Like Myst, the original Riven is a point and click adventure game. Players navigate through a variety of locations, all depicted as (mostly) still computer generated environments. A couple of months after its PC debut, Riven arrived on the PlayStation, which is where I got my first taste of the franchise. It's also the first game where I ever actually had to write down a bunch of notes in order to help solve the puzzles.

Specific release platforms and an exact release date were not shared.

They're missing a new feature that i feel this game could really use... a hint system.

Wait i wonder how they're going to do the fmv bits, upscaled? Maybe they still have the original film.

Wow, there's some memories from the late 90s.
