For some reason that the world is not aware of, Electronic Arts has decided to bring some of their older titles to Steam this past week. We're talking about games like SimCity 3000, the original Command & Conquer titles, the Populous franchise, and more. EA even brought back The Saboteur to Steam after it was delisted from the platform back in 2015.
In total there were nine classic titles added to Steam this week from EA. It's not really clear why these were added now, but it's nice to see them appear on Steam.
Perhaps the best part about all of this is the fact that EA has them all on sale right now for up to 60% off. This makes some of these titles just $2 for a limited time. The Saboteur is 50% off, bringing its price down to just $4.99. The Command & Conquer series can be picked up for $9.88 for a 12-pack of games. It seems like all of these titles are also included as part of an EA Play subscription, which is also available through Steam.
Here is a full list of the "new" old titles added to Steam by EA this week.
- Command & Conquer The Ultimate Collection
- SimCity 3000 Unlimited
- Populous
- Populous II: Trials of the Olympian Gods
- Populous: The Beginning
- Dungeon Keeper Gold
- Dungeon Keeper 2
- Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri Planetary Pack
- The Saboteur
I would LOVE a remaster of the original Mercenaries.
• Run the video settings tool first. Make sure it was set to 60Hz because anything above that (at least on Windows 11 will just crash the game). 2560x1440p resolution, every setting (there aren't many) maxed out. Motion blur off.
• Start the game, adjust volume settings
• Quit
• Add "Windowed 1" to the config file so the game can run in a window
• Installed the "fallback" patch that brings this Steam version up to par with the GOG version. May be needed to quickly fix the issue with systems with more than 4 CPU cores? I can't find good, SOLID info on what the GOG patches do tbh: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/f...-to-gog-patch/
• Start the game. It starts in a window as expected.
• Run Borderless Gaming and add the game to the list. It does its thing and bam... everything seems fine.
Played for over an hour, like I said. Mouse and keyboard all seemed fine. GPU is only like 25% used. CPU was like 5% for my entire system even with the game running.
I can apparently do something with Nvidia Inspector to get some AA added to the game but I don't know if I want to bother.
