A filter for wi-fi is also coming soon.
Though some argue that Mortal Kombat 1 should have shipped with cross-play, it will at least be added to the game soon. NetherRealm Studios say that they are readying cross-play support and hope to have the update ready for February 2024. This update will allow PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC players to fight against each other.
NetherRealm also say that a "Wi-fi filter" will also arrive in the near future. This should allow online fighters to avoid fighting against players that are playing on a wi-fi connection.
NetherRealm note that the patch notes for the new update will be available "very soon." The studio did share a few snippets of what the update includes: Various quality-of-life changes are coming, plus various tweaks to Kameo characters such as Kano, Sonya, and Kung Lao.
All of this information was revealed to fans via a recent livestream. If you missed that livestream, you can watch the entire thing on YouTube. Though a bit about the stream focused on these future changes, the majority of the stream talked about the imminent release of Quan Chi, whom will be added to Mortal Kombat 1 on December 14 for Early Access buyers. Quan Chi will be added to the game on December 21 for everyone else. An exact date on cross-play, outside of February, was not announced.
