It's a good thing that Larian Studios moved up the release date for Baldur's Gate 3, because the studio says a "standard playthrough" will take anywhere from 75 to 100 hours. This means if you want to complete the game before Starfield is out on September 6th, you best get to playing Baldur's Gate 3 ASAP.

Larian Studios says that their upcoming RPG can take up to 100 hours if you are making your way through the story and doing some side content here and there. Those who are attempting to "do everything" should "expect to double that figure." These estimates were shared with IGN by Larian boss Swen Vincke.

"Between 75 and 100 hours, that's what we're seeing," Vincke said. "That's not doing everything, that is just going to be a playthrough. There will be people who will be way over that, the ones who want to do everything. They will probably hit 200 hours, I think. On average we're seeing people who are going through take about 75 to 100 hours."
Vincke also talks a bit about how long it may take to complete Baldur's Gate 3 if you are playing with friends in multiplayer.

"There are multiple ways of playing it, right?” Vincke said. “We saw that with [Divinity: Original Sin 2] and it will be no different here. People who are going to be playing in multiplayer, they'll take a year, a year-and-a-half. They will make their regular sessions where they play, like D&D."
Though a figure like that doesn't really mean much at all. You could realistically say that about any game. Like I'm continuing my playthrough of Yakuza: Like a Dragon after stopping a few chapters in back in 2020. I'm not going to say that Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a game that will take players over three years to complete though.

Going back to Baldur's Gate 3 now, Vincke does note that there will be pretty clear points where you can just stop and play something else for a while before returning. Vincke also says that because there are so many different ways to play and do things, players may feel compelled to re-roll their characters and start anew with a different class, sub-class, race, or sub-race.

"I don't think you'll be done in a month, is what I'm saying."
Oh, okay.

In very related news, we learned this week that Baldur's Gate 3 includes 170 hours of cinematics. The RPG will also include over 600 spells and actions.
