Season 12 for the ever-popular battle royale game Apex Legends just dropped and with it comes a wealth of new and updated content. First and foremost, there is a new Legend that you can play as named Mad Maggie. There are some big changes that have hit the Olympus map along with some changes to weapons, Legend abilities, and even a new limited-time mode called Control.

Before getting into that, it needs to be noted that Apex Legends is celebrating its third anniversary right now. Every player that logs into the game during the first three weeks of Season 12 will get some rewards. You can unlock Octane, Wattson, and Valkyrie over the next three weeks along with free thematic packs each week. There will be a special extra legendary pack on the last week with Valkyrie.

The map rotation for the Casual playlist will go Olympus, Storm Point, and Kings Canyon. Ranked Split 1 is Olympus and Split 2 is Kings Canyon.

Olympus has seen some pretty big changes this season. Instead of floating in the sky, the entire map has now crashed into the planet below. The map is also a bit larger than before thanks to the addition of some new points of interest (POI). There's also now something called a Phase Driver between the locations of Bonsai and Hydroponics. If you interact with it, loot will show up with at least one gold-tier item guaranteed each time. You can activate it again after 45 seconds. Just know that each time it's used, a loud attention-grabbing noise is emitted letting everyone around you know where you are.

Respawn put up a full blog detailing all of the changes made to Olympus.

The newest map, Storm Point, also saw some tweaks. The biggest changes have to do with the map's wildlife. Prowlers now only hit for 20 damage instead of 30. Completing their nests now grant 150 crafting materials instead of the old 90. Wandering Prowlers went from 3 to 2.

The newest Legend, Mad Maggie, brings an "offensive playstyle" to the games. She is strong with a shotgun and has the ability to attack enemies through cover.

Passive: Warlord's Ire
Temporarily highlight enemies you’ve damaged. No movement speed penalty when wielding Shotguns.

Tactical: Riot Drill
Fire a drill that attaches to an obstacle and burns enemies on the other side.

Wrecking Ball
Throw a ball that releases speed-boosting pads and detonates near enemies.
The Alternator SMG is back to being ground loot this season. In its place in the Supply Drops is the Volt SMG. The VK-47 Flatline and Longbow DMR are now craftable at crafting stations for just 30 materials. As such, these weapons cannot be found on the ground like normal.

Crypto might not suck this season. There have been some buffs made to his abilities, specifically his use of the drone. The drone will now feature additional stats on the HUD and feature a wider FOV. Caustic's gas traps have been changed a bit so that they can now be destroyed after being activated. Each trap has 150 HP. Activated traps now stop after 11 seconds instead of the old 12.5 seconds.

This was all a very surface level look at the new update. Plenty of additional details can be found for this Season 12 update at the Season 12 patch notes page.
