Netflix has already found a great deal of success making animated adaptations of some of your favorite games. We already saw Castlevania get the animated treatment with Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix also in the works. Yes, it's an animated adaptation of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Another project in the works is Devil May Cry: The Animated Series.
Adi Shankar is again taking on the role of producer for this series and happily announced that "the season 1 scripts are done." He continues on to say that, "they are rad. I could not be more excited." These scripts have been written alongside Alex Larsen, the screenplay writer for Bodied.
The first season of Devil May Cry: The Animated Series will feature eight episodes, but it won't end there. Shankar is planning out a "multi-season arc" that will play out over time. Story details were not shared, but Shankar did share that the animated series will feature many characters from the game series. These include Dante (obviously), Vergil, and Lady.
Shankar says that working with Capcom has been "a dream." He is working alongside Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi. Kobayashi is perhaps best known for his work on the original Devil May Cry and Resident Evil games. He also helped bring the 2007 Devil May Cry: The Animated Series to life alongside the Japanese animation studio Madhouse.
And in case you were wondering about the cast, there is one thing that Shankar did reveal: "I can also confirm that Chris Pratt won't be voicing any of the characters." Chris Pratt has been making the voice acting rounds lately, first having been announced as the voice of Mario in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated film. He was also just revealed as the voice of Garfield in another upcoming animated film.
Devil May Cry: The Animated Series will begin production in early 2022. A release date for the first episode has not yet been confirmed.
