Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) and Tobii just signed an exclusive partnership that will being "the next generation of eye tracking and head tracking technology" to Star Citizen. This tracking will be introduced officially in the Alpha 3.12: Assault on Stanton update coming soon for the game.

Obviously, you will need to have supported Tobii hardware to make use of the eye tracking and head tracking technologies. This includes the Tobii Eye Tracker 5, which seems to be the latest hardware offering from Tobii at present. According to this here press release that I am reading, there will be a limited time savings of 10% off of the Tobii Eye Tracker 5. Maybe that will make the $229 (USD) price point a bit easier to swallow.

“Flying and ship-to-ship combat is a critical part of the Star Citizen experience – and Tobii eye tracking hardware makes that experience much more immersive,” said Cloud Imperium Games CEO and Star Citizen creative director Chris Roberts. “We look forward to working with our partners at Tobii to expand eye tracking features and functionality over time.”
“We are thrilled to add Star Citizen to our growing library of titles that support our eye tracking technology,” said Anand Srivatsa, Division CEO of Tobii Tech. “Whether you are aiming to improve reaction times and precision or looking for a more immersive and comfortable way to explore and enjoy gaming, Tobii offers a new way to experience your favorite games.”
Star Citizen is still in an alpha stage after about eight years of development and hundreds of millions in crowd-sourced funding. A release date for the final product is still not yet known. You can, however, follow their development to see just what the heck is going on.
