Star Citizen Devs Get Outside Help for Multiplayer Modes

Yes, this game is still in development.

Today, Cloud Imperium Games announced that they are partnering with Firesprite for the upcoming multiplayer mode in Star Citizen. The mode, called Theaters of War (working title), is a PvP experience that was first unveiled back during CitizenCon 2019. This mode features large-scale, team-based battles between attackers and defenders. The battles will take place on the surface of planets, in the upper atmosphere, and then feature a final assault...

Star Citizen's First Dynamic Event Includes Epic Space Battles

    For real this time.

Back in the far off time of late December 2020, Cloud Imperium Games said that they were totally going to do their first ever live event in Star Citizen. Well, that didn't happen. It was delayed because it's Star Citizen and delays are just expected for everything. You know it, I know it, my pets know it.

Fortunately, the first ever dynamic event launches today in Star Citizen. It only took a bit over a month to come to fruition, but players can now...

Star Citizen: Squadron 42 is Once Again Delayed

No beta, no alpha, no end in sight.

It seems as though another year will pass without so much as a new glimpse at Squadron 42, the single player component for Star Citizen from Cloud Imperium Games. CIG showed off its revised roadmap last week and with it came a full deletion of any Squadron 42 beta.

Chris Roberts, the founder of CIG and Star Citizen creator, told donators that they shouldn't expect to see a release date for the game anytime soon. In fact, the last time...

Star Citizen to Have Its First Dynamic Server Event this Week

    Big ships going "pew pew."

Cloud Imperium Games, the developers behind Star Citizen, are about to kick off the first ever large-scale dynamic server event. At some point this week, there will be a massive space battle against what they are calling the "XenoThreat." CIG is calling on all pilots to join the fight against this terrorist organization.

Pilots will join up with the UEE Navy and "lead assaults against enemy capital ships."

Crytek Responds to Cloud Imperium Games' Response to Initial Crytek Lawsuit

This week we got to see the planned response from Crytek that addresses the recent legal response by Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) to dismiss a lawsuit from Crytek over Star Citizen. I say it's a "planned response" because while this was filed literally yesterday (January 19), the court date isn't until February 9.

You can see the full legal response via Docdroid. Do note that clicking on that link will open whatever your PDF viewer is. Chrome seems to have one built in already. ...

Star Citizen Developer Responds to Crytek Lawsuit

A few weeks back, the world learned that Crytek was suing Cloud Imperium Games, the development studio behind Star Citizen. Crytek filed a lawsuit in the California District Court and claimed that CIG has not lived up to the terms of their initial agreement to use CryENGINE for Star Citizen. The claim says that the license covers one game and one game alone, and they feel as though Squadron 42 is a separate game and needs a separate license. Crytek's suit also made the claim that logos,...

Star Citizen Dropping DirectX 12 in Favor of Vulkan

A posting to the RSI forums states that Star Citizen will drop their planned support for DirectX 12 and will instead focus on Vulkan for their API. This should allow for more operating systems to play the game beyond just Windows 10.
Years ago we stated our intention to support DX12, but since the introduction of Vulkan which has the same feature set and performance advantages this seemed a much more logical rendering API to use as it doesn't force our users to upgrade to Windows

Star Citizen Single Player Campaign to Miss 2016 Launch Window

At the latest CitizenCon 2016, Cloud Imperium Games announced that Squadron 42 will not make its planned 2016 release window. Squadron 42 is the name of the single player component for Star Citizen. CEO of CIG, Chris Roberts, said that while a lot of the technology behind the game is finished, there are still some areas that they need to work on. These areas include AI logic and mission integration. Those are typically important for single player games. As of right now, the team is wor...
