Mortal Shell

News comes alongside a new trailer.

Mortal Shell was announced today as being a timed exclusive to the Epic Games Store. It's not very often that we get a press release that is almost solely focused on this sort of news, yet here we are. This action-RPG is being developed by a very small team who showed off their latest trailer, complete with gameplay, during the PC Gaming Show.

The news about the Epic Games Store timed exclusivity was made this past Saturday during the PC Gaming Show. We also learned that the game will, at launch, go for just $29.99 (USD) when it releases later this year. Pre-orders for the PC release on the Epic Games Store are now live. A Steam release is expected to occur in Q3 of 2021. You know how these things go by now. Time exclusives on PC, or any platform really, just continues to be the absolute worst thing ever.

If you do not want to wait a year for the Steam release, you can always pick up Mortal Shell on the Epic Game Store using that handy affiliate link. Mortal Shell is just $29.99 (USD). As always, the money earned from any purchases made using the creator code "zips" across all of the Epic Games Store does go into helping to support the site when needed.

"The primary goals of our studio are to make Mortal Shell the best game it can be and to live another day and keep making awesome games in the future," said the founders of Cold Symmetry in a joint statement. "Epic's financial support, for a small studio like ours, was clearly going to help us achieve those goals so it was something we had to consider earnestly."
Alongside this new revelation about Mortal Shell comes a new gameplay trailer for the game. This trailer shows off one of the game's four playable shells, Tiel. Tiel is very agile and does a lot of cool stuff with poison. In addition to a look at Tiel, there was also a longer gameplay trailer that shows off a fight against Hadern. Hadern is an "elusive adversary whose motiviations are unclear." The fight takes place at an early part of the game where the player has yet to possess a Shell.

The fight sequence shows off the "basics with a pure test of swordplay: Movement, timing, anticipation, distance, and committing your blade." The fight takes place on what I can only assume is the Dark Souls equivalent to Final Destination.

Don't forget that there is a beta coming up shortly for Mortal Shell.
