Nintendo released the first details on the hardware at work with their newly announced Nintendo Switch. The details are still a bit scarce but it does explain how the console allows for you to turn the console into a portable device. It also offers up a brief bit about the new controllers that Nintendo calls Joy-Con controllers. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.
At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.
Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.
“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Also curious to see how Amiibos will be scanned into this. If it's the screen, then can the grip accessory also do NFC scanning when playing on a TV (where you want to keep the screen in the dock)? That and how well does the NVidia Tegra work? I know it's in Shield, but I've also heard it's not too friendly on voltage so it heats up a bit. Then again, there are later revisions that supposedly address this and I stopped reading about it after that.
Well, there two more things I want to say: The name... Doesn't suck. Beats Wii U and New 3DS any day. Compared to their competitors? Hmm... On par, but not terrible and we can't make a nickname out of this. I'm okay with this name. And finally DeNA Corp, don't mess this up. You wasted the Marvel license and misled so many customers into paying for microtransactions in Marvel War of Heroes, so Nintendo signing you up is your last chance at having anybody respect you as a game developer/publisher. The Mobage brand is a failure, and you screwed over so many Japanese developers with your ignorance. We may forgive you for joining Nintendo and succeeding, but we'll never forget what you've done to take our money and run without ever putting value into your bull$#!+ services. I also haven't forgotten about Transformers and Rage of Bahamut. Hasbro isn't too pleased with how you wasted their license too.
I mean, look at Miitomo. Nobody to this day can figure out the point of staying on. The novelty wore off already, and the only incentive it provides is no longer attractive. Nintendo isn't making My Nintendo appealing, and you're not making Miitomo appealing. Right now, you're still the same @$$holes I remember. I am venting because I want to one day look back at this and say I was angry and wrong. That I'm being naive, and DeNA Corp has in fact, changed and improved for the better. And in that future, I want to be able to say that DeNA Corp contributed to the growth of Nintendo's community, and thus, Nintendo's business. But in this present, you're still a lying sack of $#!+. I'm watching you, but I'm keeping my wallet away from you.
It's a Joy Con :P
