The PlayStation 4 was released in Europe this past week. Two weeks prior, it was released in North America. The console has already sold 2.1 million units to the customer throughout North America, South America, and Europe.

Andrew House provides an update to the community in a recent PlayStation Blog posting.
"PS4’s North American debut on November 15th was PlayStation’s largest ever, with more than one million gamers picking up a PS4 in just 24 hours. Now, with PS4’s global launch expanding to a total of 32 countries worldwide, including Europe and Latin America, I’m proud to announce that more than 2.1 million PS4s have been sold.

"It’s an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn’t have done it without you. "Thank you for your passion and your support — we couldn’t have done this without you."

During its launch in the UK, the PlayStation 4 sold almost 250,000 units in just over 48 hours. The Xbox One sold around 170,000 units in just over a week's time in the same region with 150,000 of those sales having come in the first 48 hours. The Wii U's lifetime sales figures in that region? Just 150,000 units in total.
