Starfield Being Created with New Hardware in Mind

In case there was any doubt about Bethesda's Starfield being a "next-gen title" then perhaps the following information direct from Todd Howard himself will clear things up.

Howard spoke with Eurogamer's Robert Purchese about his expectations for Starfield. Beyond it being a game that has gameplay systems and mechanics that he feels are "next-gen," the hardware that they are targeting isn't even out yet.
What, then, does Starfield being next-generation mean? "That to us means two things," Todd Howard told me. "It does mean hardware and it does mean software on our side, and it also means gameplay - what does the next generation of epic sin

Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online PlayStation 4 Review

    The best just got better.

A little over a year ago I provided a review for the single player portion of Grand Theft Auto V for the Xbox 360. In it, not a detail was spared as I shared my praises and complaints about the game. Here we are, one year later and I'm back at it. It's not often that I get to offer up a second review for a game, let alone one that has been re-released on a new platform and given significant number of improvements since its initial release.

Yet here we are in late 2014 playing the PlayStation 4 version of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. I'll spare you the detailed analysis of the game. For that, you can simply read the original review for the simple fact that things like the less than exceptional writing and third-person gameplay experience remain largely unchanged. Instead, a focus on the new features and gameplay mechanics are in order, along with a look at GTA Online to see if it's managed to tackle the issues that landed it on our biggest disappointment list for 2013. The first and most obvious change to the game is the fact that it now runs at a near rock solid 30 frames per second at 1080p resolution on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Without a doubt, a solid 60fps experience would be preferable but let's examine what we're coming from here. The old generation of consoles had massive framerate drops and only pushed a resolution of 720p. Here we ar...

  • Rocksteady Claims That a Single Character in Arkham Knight Has Same Polygon Count as Entire Arkham Asylum Environment

In an interview with Game Informer, Rocksteady shared some information about Batman: Arkham Knight. One of the things they shared was that a single character in Arkham Knight has the same polygon count as an "entire Arkham Asylum environment."

Lead character artist, Albert Feliu, shared some insight.
"At the beginning, we started making characters that were about three to four times the polygon count and texture sizes of Arkham city," Feliu told the magazine.

"As we kept going with every character we just pushed it more. It's the kind of thing that sounds insane. Like one character is as big as the polygon count of Arkham Asylum, the whole environment."

  • Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Runs at 1080p on PlayStation 4, 720p on Xbox One

The fans begged for it and Hideo Kojima and his team at Konami are delivering on the request to show visual differences between the various versions of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. This includes a comparison of the current gen systems with the last gen systems.

It also includes a chart showing the resolution and framerate differences between every version of the game. Let's just get it out of the way right now and show the comparison chart between each version.

Every version, with the exception of the PS4 version, will output 720p. The Xbox One is a native 720p resolution while the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are upscaled to 720p. The PS4 will run at 1080p na...

Video Preview of the New Visuals Coming in Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

A new developer diary for Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was released today. In it, the team behind the game show off some of the increased visual flair that is coming with the PS4 and Xbone only release.

Keep in mind that the only advantages that the PC version of Tomb Raider has over this release is the ability to run at a framerate above 30FPS and the ability to run at resolutions greater than 1080p. Everything else here has been bumped up beyond even what the PC version had....

PlayStation 4 Hit 4.2 Million Units Sold in 2013

In a bit of a move to "one up" the competition, Sony revealed today that they sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4 units as of December 28, 2013. This follows the news from Microsoft, where they said they sold 3 million Xbox One consoles in 2013.

Sony dropped this rather unsurprising bomb on those in attendance at its CES 2014 keynote today. This also follows news from "earlier" in 2013 that the company sold 2.1 million PS4 units by early December....
