  • Steam Deck Out of Stock Due to Global Memory Shortage

Because we all needed another reason to tell these AI slop-pushing tech bros to go fuck themselves.
The store page for Valve's Steam Deck showing all models being out of stock.

Another consumer focused electronic device is feeling the squeeze this week due to the ever worsening memory shortage. Valve has confirmed that the Steam Deck "may be out-of-stock intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages." This announcement from Valve comes directly from the Steam Deck store page.

Both yesterday and continuing on into today, all models of the Steam Deck have been showing as "out of stock." This mainly impacts the Steam Deck OLED models. Valve already discontinued production on the only remaining LCD model late last year. Even if the 256GB LCD model was still being sold, it would probably also be completely out of stock like the 512GB and 1TB OLED models are currently.

Earlier in February, Valve also announced that both the Steam Frame and Steam Machine were being delayed a bit. These devices, like the Steam Deck, have been massively impacted by the ongoing memory shortages. Valve has also not yet shared pricing details for either the Steam Frame or Steam Machine. With memory prices being an ever growing shitshow, these may end up being some very, very expensive devices if and when they actually come to market.
