If you're someone that's sniffing the vents of your Steam Deck then I need say a couple of things: First off, what the hell is wrong with you? Secondly, Valve says you should probably not do that.
Apparently there's some joke or meme about sniffing the exhaust vents of your Steam Deck. Huh?... What? I don't know what this is all about. Maybe it's some dumb zoomer thing like eating Tide Pods, licking Switch cartridges, or cooking NyQuil Chicken. Whatever it is, don't do it. Even Valve is now telling these exhaust huffing weirdos to stop.
In a recent Reddit post, a Steam Deck user shared what they claim is an official reply from Steam Support on whether or not it's safe to "inhale the exhaust fumes from the top vent of the Steam Deck."
Valve notes that "while there are no safety concerns with general usage, directly inhaling the device's vent fumes should be avoided."
Apparently this whole Steam Deck vent sniffing has been a thing for a while now, allegedly dating back to almost right when the Steam Deck launched in the first place. The exact reason isn't really known, but some huffers have suggested the scent reminded them of walking into a Blockbuster Video. Maybe the smell just triggers some childhood memories for some of them.
Despite Valve's warning, several users have indicated that they have no intention of halting their huffing addiction.
