The second half of Old Man Murray and someone that was undoubtedly a champion of our virtual future, Chet Faliszek, has left Valve. Faliszek parts ways from a legacy that stretches back 12 years with the former game developer.

Faliszek played a major role in Valve's Vive VR platform, pushing developers to jump into the virtual whether it was on Vive or competing platforms. Some of his writing credits while at Valve include the two Half-Life 2 Episodes, both Portal games, and both Left4Dead titles.

This departure comes just a few months after his writing partner in crime, Erik Wolpaw, departed Valve. It also comes months after Mark Laidlaw, another major writer at Valve left in late 2016. As it stands, Faliszek did not yet say where he will end up but told GI.biz that he and Valve left on good terms.
"[It was]Nothing exciting or drama filled," he wrote of his departure. "I worked there 12 years, shipped a bunch of great games and some amazing hardware and wanted to change things up. There's no news on what's next etc, I will let you know when that happens."

Many developers that are making VR games now or will be in the future probably owe some small thanks to Faliszek. We certainly wish Chet the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Editor's Note: Chet is a great guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him back when I was invited out to Valve prior to the release of the Orange Box. While I was there playing Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and Portal, I was asked if I would like to try out a game called Left4Dead. At the time, I really didn't keep up with the development of the game. Sure, I ran CS-Nation but the site's main focus at that time was on Counter-Strike, the Orange Box, and Valve's 'in-house' developed titles. It was my belief that Left4Dead was just being handled by some studio called Turtle Rock and probably wasn't a big focus for Valve. It never really crossed my mind that it would be there.

Well, it was there (obviously) and I was just invited to go try it out. Chet and I walked from the room I was playing the Orange Box in over to another room and I sat down in front of another computer. I joined in on an early build of Left4Dead, a game that was (at the time) over a year away from release. I joined a game with three others that I assume were A)Developers and B)In other rooms within Valve. Chet sat next to me and gave me to tips while I was playing as it was an entirely new gameplay experience from most everything I had played before. I got to play with the game's older character models that never made it to the release version.

Predictably, I died before we beat the No Mercy campaign. After returning back home I emailed Chet to see if he could provide me with some Left4Dead shots for one of the write-ups I was doing. He obliged and provided me with some screens. I wasn't aware at the time but he provided CS-Nation with the first look at the Witch. We had that exclusive and I had no idea. Looking back on it now I realize just how awesome that was of him to do.

Chet was also instrumental in providing beta keys to CS-Nation for giveaways to the CS:GO beta among being helpful in other ways for the site. I wish Chet the best of luck with whatever he ends up doing next.
