  • Lambda Symbol Possibly Revealed in Apparent Valve Winter Sale ARG

Valve might have hidden a bunch of secret clues in this latest Winter Sale of theirs. To make a super long story short, a bunch of people have been finding clues in backgrounds, web pages, and more during this latest Steam Winter Sale for 2015.

In fact, they have gone so far as to unlock a special badge (seen below), which you can earn yourself (at least at the time of this posting). All you need to do is open up this Steam store link in Chrome, type in (without clicking anything ahead of time) the word "search", hit "enter" on your keyboard, and then input the password of "1v7531" into the new dialogue box that pops up. There you go, you have the Red Herring badge now.

Oh, but there was more discovered tonight.

One of the unlockable background images from crafting the badge for this sale? Why, it seems to contain a tiny, hidden lambda symbol.

There is also a weird thing going on right now with an apparent Valve employee (Discovered to be unrelated to the potential real ARG). There were also some lines of dialogue and mysterious codes in the days prior.

Make of all of this what you will. Of course, maybe this isn't for anything at all.

    Right?

    Happy New Year!

I can confirm the Red Herring badge can also be obtained with FireFox. If the password prompt doesn't show up, try disabling your pop-up ad blocker (no need to disable FireFox's built-in one as I had that on when I tried it).

With that said... ZIPS BE STRONG! THIS ISN'T HALF-LIFE RELATED AT ALL! IT WON'T BE! STAY STRONG DAMN IT! DON'T GIVE IN! DON'T GET EXCITED! TEMPER THOSE EXPECTATIONS AND STAY CALM AND DISAPPOINTED! DO NOT JOIN THE BANDWAGON DAMN IT! YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THEM, AND NEITHER WILL I! C'MON MAN!

(But at least we got 100 XP out of it.)

Update: There's a Trello page now. Summarizes everything that has been found, solved, and currently under investigation. Also Marc Laidlaw claims he hasn't heard anything about the ARG being used for announcing a new game (ARG done by the Steam staff), but fans are suspecting he's lying. I don't though. It might be news for the HTC Vive for CES 2016.
