XBOX: 1,600 Layoffs Today, Another 1,600 Over the Next Year, Four Studios Now Independent or Sold, Arkane in Limbo

More broadly, Microsoft is cutting 4,800 jobs.

Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).

As a quick reminder: Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion on AI in 2026. In 2025, the company spent $80 billion...

Digital only after January 2028.

Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.

Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

All good things...

Bungie is calling it quits on Destiny 2. The Sony owned Marathon developer announced the final live-service content update for Destiny 2. Today's announcement was a long time coming and one that most fans saw the writing on the wall for months ago.

That final content update for Destiny 2, Monument of Triumph, takes place on June 9, 2026. Bungie says that they will begin a "new journey as a studio" on that date with includes working on their...

Lord of Hatred Review: Diablo 4 Finally Finds Its Final Form

This is Diablo 4 at its best. I mean it this time. For real.

Returning to the world of Sanctuary for this latest chapter feels like a true homecoming for those of us who have spent hundreds of hours traversing its dark and unforgiving landscapes since the base game launched back in 2023. The release of the Lord of Hatred expansion marks a significant step forward in the narrative that was originally set in motion during the initial campaign and furthered by the events of the Vesse...

  • EA Again Snubs PC with NHL 26 Reveal

EA Again Snubs PC with NHL 26 Reveal

    It's been 17 years, EA. C'mon.

Electronic Arts unveiled EA Sports NHL 26 with a release date set for September 12, 2025. Unsurprisingly, NHL 26 is only coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but not PC nor any Switch platform.

It's a bit of a joke at this point really. Electronic Arts seems to be extremely weird about which sports franchises they bring to PC and which they don't. Madden? PGA Tour? Soccer? Yep, they're on PC. Then you have things like College Football,...

Cooler Master is Selling a Limited Edition $3,100 PC

There will only be 100 of these made and sold.

Cooler Master has decided to sell a limited edition pre-configured PC. They're calling this the "MasterFrame 360 Panorama S Limited Edition" and only 100 of them will be sold. The asking price for it is just $3,099.99 (they say it was originally $3,599.99).

Aside from the rather silly name and insane price, the system at least includes some pretty nice hardware. Really, the only thing that I am surprised by is...

Dying Light: The Beast is a Very Gory Game

This was probably to be expected, but still.

The upcoming Dying Light: The Beast will be a very gory game. If you thought to yourself "well duh," then good job, enjoy that gold star you gave to yourself.

The latest out of Techland is a new trailer called "Blood & Guts" and it shows off the "extremely brutal and graphic violence" in Dying Light: The Beast. They even suggest you "watch it at your own risk." That is, of course,...

8BitDo Releases New Retro R8 Mouse in Europe

This mouse, sadly, does not include sharp corners like the NES controller.

8BitDo just released a very old-school mouse today. Their new mouse aesthetics seem to be heavily inspired by the original NES controller, though you won't catch 8BitDo directly stating that. Nintendo's lawyers probably wouldn't like it if they did.

Their new mouse is called the Retro R8 Mouse - N Edition, or just Retro R8 Mouse if you're feeling frisky. It was released today in Europe and it's...

Nintendo Increases Prices on Original Switch Hardware

A bold move, to be sure.

There was a time, not too long ago, where the deeper into a console's lifespan we were, the cheaper the hardware itself became. The exception to that seems to be the latest console generation, where basically every company increased prices as the generation went on.

Nintendo pulled an interesting move this week by announcing a price increase for their console hardware. A price increase already for the recently released Switch 2? No, you fool!...

EVO happened, which means it's time for some revealing reveals.

This past weekend during Evolution Championship Series (Evo) 2025, Capcom shared a teaser for a new fighter coming soon to Street Fighter 6. That new character is actually a returning one and is none other than agent C. Viper.

In addition to the teaser for C. Viper, Capcom also shared a look at Outfit 4 for seven different characters. These outfits will be swimsuit themed, which I'm sure makes some fans...

  • How Many Games Did You Complete in 2025?
    by Shawn Zipay
Make up your own definition of "complete."

Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?

For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
