Earlier in the day on September 4th, Hollow Knight: Silksong was released. Shortly after it was released, several popular storefronts ended up crashing. Surely, it was but a mere coincidence that issues were reported with Steam, the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Xbox all at the same time today.
Hollow Knight: Silksong has been one of the most anticipated game releases for the past several years now. It was first announced on Valentine's Day in 2019. It began life as DLC for Hollow Knight but the scope got to be so big that the developers at Team Cherry decided to make it its own game. Six years later it's finally here for PC, Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

According to SteamDB, Silksong almost immediately hit a peak concurrent player count of 535,213. It's currently sitting at just over 411,000 players right now. It will be interesting to see if the weekend brings in an even higher peak player count for this one.
