Sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered surged over the past week. This was partly due to a 50% discount on Steam and partly because of the upcoming H2 Multiplayer Mod that would add Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer content into Modern Warfare Remastered.
Sales of Modern Warfare Remastered were so high that it easily broke into the top 10 selling titles across all of Steam. There is almost zero doubt that Activision reaped the benefits of increased sales stemming from the excitement for the H2 Multiplayer Mod.
The mod was supposed to be released on Friday, August 16. That is obviously no longer happening. On August 15th, Activision issued a cease and desist letter to the H2 team. As a result, the team says that they are shutting down all operations.
The H2 Multiplayer Mod will no longer be released.
The fans waiting for this mod are not happy about this turn of events. Many have pointed out how it was very convenient for Activision to wait for the sale to be over before issuing the cease and desist to the H2 team. Others are outright saying that they are refunding the game on Steam due to this and suggest others do the same. Keep in mind that Steam typically only allows refunds if you have under two hours of total play time.

People bought Half Life to play Counter Strike, people bought Warcraft 3 to play Dota, Fallout 4 for London, Arma 2 for DayZ, and as shown you can make a best selling remaster of a best selling video game and somehow make it a best seller again 8 years later... I guess they need to be careful not to inspire other mod makers in case they sell more games.
