...But other players can still see the cheaters.

Activision just revealed a rather unique way they are starting to deal with cheaters caught by their Ricochet anti-cheat system. A new update for the Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Warzone anti-cheat will now drastically impede how cheaters can play the games.

The new system introduced today is called Cloaking. With Cloaking, players that are supposedly cheating will be unable to see other players in the game world. This means that cheaters will not see characters, bullets, or even sounds from other players. Those players in the lobby that are not cheating will still be able to see cheaters just fine.

Activision's Ricochet team says that this Cloaking system will also help to collect data that will help identify cheaters.

This will, presumably, be an intermediate step before the cheaters are banned. Activision did provide an update on the bans that have been dished out in a recent ban wave.

In a previous update on CallofDuty’s Twitter channel, we announced over 90,000 accounts had been shuttered in a recent ban wave – this in addition to ban waves that had been previously announced. Since the update on social media, #TeamRICOCHET has banned over 54,000 additional accounts. While we may not announce all bans as they happen, know they occur both daily and in waves.

Of course, we understand that for every advancement we make in anti-cheat, cheaters are working to circumvent those updates. For this reason, we encourage players to continue to use in-game reporting tools. If you see a cheater in the wild, report it. This information is invaluable to make new updates in the fight against unfair play.
