Activision's CFO Dennis Durkin told investors that Ghosts has not even hit Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 sales figures yet. They're naturally blaming it on the upcoming release of the new consoles and digital distribution... somehow. Really? Alright...
"Today, we announced that we had shipped into retail more than $1bn of Call of Duty: Ghosts globally on day one based on an average wholesale price. As expected, due to the console transition and digital distribution, this number is down versus last year.
"This year, the sell-through curve will be different than in past years due to the multiple launches of new hardware later in the month and more days between our launch and the high-volume Black Friday at the end of the month.
"That said, it's a very solid achievement and shows the tremendous confidence our retail partners have and the strength of the game and franchise heading into this holiday."

While their excuse is just that, an excuse, it should be noted that sales for other multi-generational titles such as Battlefield 4 and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag are also down from their previous releases.
Yeah, I'm sure that the new consoles are solely to blame for why all of these games aren't selling as well as the previous entries. Yep, that must be it.

The generally poor reviews for the game aren't helping Ghosts either: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-...of-duty-ghosts
As for the whole; I think people are getting tired of the "same" thing. I got bored with AC at 2 and never even finished it.
Battlefield is the game Ive decided to play, but between the 2.5ers and the horrible forums and lack of teamwork that people think will magically happen, I can see why people would say "no thanks".
I also get the idea of the "next get" excuse, but both BF4 and COD are offering a $10 upgrade to next gen. Im a PC player, but to me that would rule out the excuse of waiting. Why wait to play single player or co-op with your friends now? Why wait to unlock things and have them in next-gen? Why wait to see the graphics before next-gen and after? Is it worth saving $10, which is nothing compared to the price of the games and DLC and one or two lunches, vs. all the stuff I mentioned?
IDK though. Maybe its all the above and there is just too much going on at one time.
