Electronic Arts and what remains of Battlefield Studios just shared a look at some of the content coming in Seasons 3 through 5 for Battlefield 6. Not only are the devs betting big on nostalgia, they are also promising to directly address some of the biggest issues the community has had with Battlefield 6 via a series of major updates coming throughout 2026.
What follows comes via a Q&A session between the Battlefield 6 team and IGN. The outlet was given a little look at what is coming in the months ahead. They break it down season by season and we'll do likewise below.
Season 3
We already know that the remake of Golmud Railway is coming in Season 3 this May. This is an updated version of the classic Battlefield 4 map that has now been renamed to Railway to Golmud. It's set in Tajikistan and will come with updated visuals, reworked play areas, and updated audio design. It will be about four times the size of Mirak Valley, one of the existing Battlefield 6 maps. The second map for Season 3 is Grand Bazaar, which will now be called Cairo Bazaar. This was a smaller map that first appeared in Battlefield 3. Vehicles will still show up in Grand Bazaar though it won't be "the full roster."
Season 3 will also add in ranked play for Battlefield RESEC. Ranked play will include unique rewards for those who participate. A solo matchmaking option is also coming to REDSEC in Season 3.
Season 4
Season 4 is expected to release in July 2026. This season looks like it will bring back some naval warfare. Maps will include aircraft carriers, other naval-based vehicles, dynamic waves, and some naval themed challenges and rewards. The first map for Season 4 will be Wake Island. Yep, it's back. Yet again.
The second map is called Tsuru Reef and will have "more room to fight than even Railway to Golmud and will stand as the largest map in Battlefield 6 upon its debut."
“Earlier in BF6, in the first seasons, we were slightly over-indexing in the smaller or medium-scale type of map,” Motive senior creative director Roman Campos-Oriola said. “Now, for Season 3, Season 4, we want to deliver more broader, bigger experiences to have that all-out warfare and more larger-scale vehicle combat. In the future, for Season 5 and onward, we’ll continue to look at that balanced approach. We will continue to release smaller or medium-sized maps – and also much larger maps.”
Season 5
Details about Season 5 were pretty sparse. We know that it's expected to drop this fall and when it does it "will come with another highly requested (but temporary) change: three new maps in one season."There is no word on just what these three maps will be. The only thing shared by Battlefield Studios on one of the maps was a teaser image showing some oily water. Or water reflecting some neon lights. Dawnbreaker, anyone?
Other features coming in 2026
Beyond the big seasonal content updates, Battlefield Studios is still "working to deliver comparatively smaller adjustments, too." This includes balance tweaks coming throughout the year. There will also be a proper server browser with persistent servers coming before the end of the year.
Other features such as leaderboards, spectator mode, platoons, and proximity chat are also in the works.
Finally, there will be map reworks coming for both New Sobek City and Blackwell Fields. A release date for these reworks and other improvements have not yet been shared.
