Ouch.
Battlefield V Update 4.2

DICE finally revealed the patch notes for Update 4.2, which is slated to hit Battlefield V tomorrow (Thursday, July 25) starting at 1AM (PT) with the PC update. PS4 and XB1 updates will follow at 2AM and 3AM respectively. On the plus side, they say that they have fixes that target "extreme instances of invisible soldiers." On the other hand, the total number of changes can be counted on just two hands.

For a fairly major update, this seems to be rather lacking. Battlefield Community Manager Adam "PartWelsh" Freeman did provide some additional information on what players can expect in Update 4.4, which is apparently slated to drop at the end of August. That is assuming that isn't delayed for one reason or another.

I would like to believe that there are many additional changes coming in Update 4.2 that were not specified in the following changelog. However, if this is really the full extent of the update, it is incredibly disappointing to read. It is especially concerning that this is the patch that (supposedly) fixes the issue of invisible soldiers that has been around since Update 4.1 hit on June 24. That is exactly one month ago today. That is a month of a bug that many could easily argue is incredibly game breaking for most players.

What’s being worked on for Update 4.4?
  • Additional fixes are also targeted to improve performance and stability across all platforms

  • Increase in Max Rank to 500
  • Updates to Fortress Mode

  • Fixes for desynced soldier hitbox known to occur when reviving or vaulting
I must say that it's very hard to get excited about anything mentioned in Update 4.4 when the current game is in such a sad state. Hell, it's difficult to get excited for even those two new maps that were mentioned when Conquest players are still waiting for two other maps to get released (Al Sundan, Marita). Of course, Marita is still apparently planned to be released at some point next week, but as with most things concerning this game you may not want to hold your breath.
