  • The History of Battlefield

Jackfrags recently put together a look back at the long history of the Battlefield franchise. It isn't quite as comprehensive as one may hope, but it does a great job shining a light on where the franchise began and where it may one day take players.

Namely he doesn't consider them as Battlefield games, which I don't exactly agree with though not a huge deal.)
It could of been. Its been so long I cant remember :p

He should of gave a shout-out to Desert Combat, even though it was only a mod.

I played quite a bit of BF P4F, and it was pretty much a not-so-heavily modified Battlefield 2 turned into a free to play game. It was quite western, played widely in europe, I dont know about how it was accepted in the USA though.
It was released around the same time as BF Bad Company 2, so a good way to explain the game would be Battlefield 2 maps and vehicles (exactly the same), with a gunplay similar to BFBC2, even the weapon catalog, the models, animations and sounds of weapons was reminiscent of BC2, the engineer even had the tracer dart and you couldnt go prone as far as I remember.
You couldnt switch classes during the round and you could only enter certain vehicle seats if you had the skill set for that (like driving airplanes). It was interesting and a way they had to recycle what they had already created for BF2, but Battlefield Heroes was way more fun in my opinion. While playing BF P4F I had the constant feel of "I own BF2, why am I playing this instead", even though the refined shooting was a quite interesting adition. Vehicle gameplay remained the same as BF2, if you knew how to drive a jet and use the bombs properly you would still be king of the round

I feel like it wont be a vietnam reboot because they most "recently" did the Vietnam DLC to BC2, even though it was absolutely awesome I just feel like them doing it as a DLC just meant that they didnt have plans to do it as a full game anytime in the near future
