  • Battlefield 4: Final Stand Details, Map Testing, and First Trailer Released

Earlier today, DICE started to blow the lid off of what we can expect to see in Battlefield 4: Final Stand. In fact, starting today, they're making the Final Stand maps available in the Community Test Environment.

Hell, even beyond that, DICE even mentions Battlefield 2142 in their latest news post about Final Stand.
With Final Stand, we knew from the start that we wanted to evolve the Battlefield experience and offer weapons and vehicles that behave differently than anything else on the battlefield. Taking place on the artic landscape of Russia, where the scientists of today are experimenting with technology that will define the battlefields of tomorrow (Battlefield 2142, anyone?), Final Stand will deliver four maps that are unique and distinct. With its military installations set against a wintry landscape, expect intense, infantry-focused combat.

Players will also discover secret prototype weapons and vehicles that further tie into the fiction around Final Stand, and to some extent the Battlefield series. This includes a Battle pick-up rail gun that fires a single round of powerful kinetic energy, and the hover tank prototype, which uses eight experimental jet propulsion engines to nimbly move around the battlefield. We have a few more surprises up our sleeves that we’ll share with you in the weeks ahead.

We definitely had a lot of fun designing these maps and the future-tech weapons and vehicles of Final Stand and hope you guys have as much fun with them as we do. That’s why we want you to start playing them now. Starting today we are going to be testing pre-release versions of the Final Stand maps on the CTE (Community Test Environment).

This is how the map testing on the CTE will work. Starting today, DICE will run servers with one new map per day. Player slots will obviously be limited on those servers, so just because you're in the CTE, it doesn't mean you'll be able to play these maps.

Beyond that, DICE also released the first actual trailer for Final Stand.

those were clearly flashes of walkers. I just rather they made 2143 instead of a crappy tease here?

Theyre just trying to bring the start of 2142 into the story.

I personally think its a great idea. In BF4 the year is 2020, I believe. 2105 the ice starts. The technology needs to start to get to where it is in 2142.

And one of my favorite 2142 intros:

Its a great way to mesh the games together and have a prequel to 2142 as well as a sequal.

Sure, but how do you start your marketing? The cheapest way is this. Your create a glimpse of what to come in a product you have already made.

But does this show that BC is dead and gone and the next real BF (NOT Hardline) will be BF 2142 2?
      I would love a 2142 2

You are right, I didn't consider that it could be publicity for a next game.
I loved 2142 so much! I hope to see it again in an even stronger glory :)
