State of Decay 3 was first announced during a June 2024 Xbox Game Showcase and there really hasn't been anything new shared since then. Today, Undead Labs finally broke that silence today with fresh gameplay details, new media, and word of an Alpha playtest that will kick off in May.
You can now register for your interested in the State of Decay 3 alpha test. There's no guarantee that you'll be selected, with Undead Labs noting that space will be quite limited at the start.
Meanwhile, Xbox "insider" Klobrille, shared some additional information about State of Decay 3. They said that the game is set several years after the initial outbreak, but the plague will still be a central, evolving threat. This means that there are now new variations on zombies and special infected in addition to the old ones.
Combat has also evolved and will includes "more responsive locomotion and fluid movement." Crafting and building "lean into a post-scarcity scavenging vibe." Players will have to improvise more in a world that "has already been heavily looted."
Co-op sounds like it has also been vastly improved to its predecessors. Now, multiplayer supports up to 4-players "in a truly shared open world." Players can start in different locations and "explore more independently while still contributing to a shared experience." Those who prefer to play solo can do so, with the solo experience feeling "complete and satisfying on its own."
Klobrille share a few screenshots from a pre-alpha build of the game. Those images were seen throughout this article. It's also suggested, though not yet confirmed, that State of Decay 3 is also coming to PlayStation 5 in addition to the Xbox and PC releases.
