This week, Blizzard announced that the "2" from Overwatch 2 is going the way of the dodo. As it enters into a "new, story-driven era" Overwatch 2 will officially just be known as Overwatch. This new era for the game will encompass a fresh year-long narrative, 10 new Heroes, three new maps, and other significant changes to the core game.
The reveal came this week during a special Overwatch Spotlight stream. The first new storyline for Overwatch is called "The Reign of Talon." This story will focus on the evil Talon faction that the Overwatch crew has been fighting against since the start of the series. The story will play out through various in-game events, new Hero trailers, motion comics, short stories, and map updates.
All of this will happen across six seasons that will roll out over the next year. It all starts on February 10 when "Season 1" begins. On the 10th, there will be five new Heroes added to the game. These new Heroes include: Domina (tank), Emre (DPS), Mizuki (support), Anran (DPS), and Jetpack Cat (support). You may be surprised to hear that Jetpack Cat is a cat wearing a jetpack.
Throughout Seasons 2 through 6, five additional Heroes will be added at a rate of one new Hero per Season. After this "Season 1" for 2026 comes to an end, a new "Season 1" and a new story arc will begin in early 2027.
When Season 1 begins on the 10th, a new Conquest Event also kicks off. Over a period of five weeks, players can choose to either align with team Talon or team Overwatch. These two teams will compete for rewards that include lootboxes, new skins, and player titles.
Season 1 will also see some major changes to the user interface and user experience. There will also be a new Hero lobby to check out. Blizzard says that they are also going to make progression faster than it has been, so it will be easier for more players to earn more rewards.
From February 10 to February 23, there will be a crossover in-game event themed around Hello Kitty.
