There is an upcoming dark fantasy adventure game that won't be out until 2027 but that does have a demo available right now. The game is Asthenia and it's ready to transport players to a decaying otherworld that has been plagued by a mysterious disease.
Ancient entities rule these plagued lands. The world itself is "shaped by loss" and is "slowly collapsing under the weight of an endless war." Damn, sounds heavy.
In Asthenia, you play as an everyday nobody named Adam. Adam, along with other humans, are sent into this world and need to find a way back home. To survive, Adam will have to take on all sorts of distorted foes, find tainted artifacts, and explore areas such as abandoned towns, industrial ruins, forgotten temples, and everything in between. As you can probably guess, resources will be scarce and the dangers are ever present.
A trailer for the game can be found below. Also below are some details on the game's combat, inspirations, and key features.
Combat focuses on deliberate, close-range encounters using the Ancient Gauntlet, a primordial relic that doubles as both weapon and tool for interacting with the environment. With no maps or quest markers, Asthenia challenges players to rely on observation, memory, and intuition to progress.
Storytelling unfolds through environmental details, fragmented letters, unsettling sound cues, visual symbolism, and Adam’s own narration.
Drawing tonal inspiration from Resident Evil 7, Silent Hill, Outlast, and Dark Souls, Asthenia blends oppressive atmosphere, lore-rich worldbuilding, and non-handholding design into a deeply personal journey through decay, loss, and transformation.
“Asthenia was born from a deeply personal place,” said Manthos Lappas, solo developer of Asthenia.
“I wanted to create a world that feels oppressive, mysterious, and alive - where discovery is earned, not handed to the player, and where every action carries real weight.”
