Despite approaching its third year on the market, the Razer Naga V2 Pro still remains one of the most feature packed and versatile gaming mice currently available. The Naga V2 Pro offers three swappable side plates, up to 20 programmable buttons, five on-board memory profiles, and a fully customizable scroll wheel that allows you to adjust scroll tension, the number of scroll steps, and the overall haptic feel of the tactile "bump" when scrolling. The mouse also offers users three connectivity options for connecting to a PC, a battery life of up to 300 hours, Razer's Focus Pro 30K optical sensor, and Razer's third-generation optical switches that promise to be good for 90 million clicks.
The Razer Naga V2 Pro is one of the most technologically advanced mice available, offering a premium experience reflected in its $179.99 price tag, which has held steady since launch. The optional Razer Mouse Dock Pro adds $69.99 to the total investment. Despite the cost, the Naga V2 Pro's impressive features arguably justify its price. Just keep in mind that this mouse, despite its rich featureset, won't be for everyone.
Like most mice on the market, the Naga V2 Pro is for right-handed people. The body sports gentle curves with the rear of the mouse elevated ever so slightly to better fit in the palm. On the right side is a small area to rest your ring finger, and right below that is a lightly textured area on the side that ensures your pinky has a comfortable place to grip. The entire chassis is almost fully matte black plastic with a glossy black finish accentuating the middle strip where the scroll wheel sits.
I spent the first several hours with the Naga V2 Pro adjusting to the form factor. Coming off of years using the Logitech G502 (first the Proteus Core and then the Hero), there were a few things on the Naga V2 Pro that took a bit of getting used to. First, the Naga V2 Pro was noticeably heavier than the G502. Razer has their mouse coming in at 134g while the G502 Hero is 121g (without added weights).
The Naga V2 Pro measures 119.5mm x 75.5 mm x 43.5 mm (length x width x height), making it ever so slightly shorter yet wider and taller than the Logitech G502 at 132 mm x 75 mm x 40 mm. The slightly increased height on the Naga V2 Pro did mean I was reaching up just a bit higher than I was used to in order to hit the side thumb buttons when using the two-button side plate. It was, oddly enough, the one thing that took me the most time to adjust to after receiving my review unit.
The Razer Naga V2 Pro comes with three different, interchangeable side plates with 12, six, and two buttons. Each plate is held in place via magnets, which makes it easy to swap in and out when desired. Of the three plates, only the 12-button plate offers additional RGB. The six-button and two-button panels do not include RGB but instead feature a nicely textured area for better grip. With the plates removed, there is a small slot where you can store the included 2.4GHz wireless dongle when not in use.
In addition to the mouse, three plates, and dongle, the Naga V2 Pro box contains a 1.8m (6-foot) USB Type-A to Type-C Speedflex cable and a USB extender.
The top of the mouse features the usual left and right mouse buttons. In between is a grippy, rubberized mouse wheel that offers the usual middle click and left/right tilt. Below the wheel are two additional buttons. The button nearest to the mouse wheel is used to swap between different scrolling profiles (more on this later), while the button just below that is used to swap through up to five different, user-set DPI settings.
On the bottom of the Naga V2 Pro is a switch that doubles as a power switch and a connectivity switch for either Bluetooth or 2.4GHz connections. On the opposite side of the sensor is a button that allows you to swap between different profiles. Below the sensor is a removable plastic disc that can be swapped out for a wireless charging puck should you also own the Razer Mouse Dock Pro.
The mouse feet are 100% PTFE (Teflon), otherwise known as virgin-grade PTFE. Feet made out of 100% PTFE have nothing added to them, including dyes, giving them their distinct milky white aesthetic and stellar glide performance. The edges of the feet on the Naga V2 Pro are nicely rounded, ensuring that they glide very smoothly over any mouse mat surface. I have to give Razer props for going straight to using 100% PTFE on the Naga V2 Pro. Other companies manufacturing premium gaming mice should take note. It may seem like a small thing, but having quality feet makes a huge difference to the feel of a mouse.
In total, the Razer Naga V2 Pro offers either 10, 14, or 20 programmable buttons depending on which side plate you are using. Every single button on the mouse, except for the left click and connectivity switch, can be reprogrammed within Razer's Synapse 4 software to do basically anything you want. Yes, you can even reprogram the profile switch button on the bottom of the mouse if you want to. Do you want to set your middle click to type out a string of text, or use the profile switch button to open up your browser? You can do those. It's actually wild just how many things you can program the buttons to do. To top it off, Razer's Hypershift feature allows you to unlock a secondary set of functions, effectively doubling the number of customizable buttons you have access to.
Internals and Performance
Inside the Naga V2 Pro is Razer's Focus Pro 30K optical sensor. This gives an effective DPI of 30,000 with Razer stating that it can accurately track mouse movements of up to 750 IPS (inches per second). The switches are Razer's own Optical Mouse Switches Gen-3, which they claim have a lifespan of 90 million clicks. That is a lot of clicks. Clicking once per second continuously would require roughly two years and ten months to reach 90 million clicks. As nobody would realistically do that, you probably won't have to worry about the switches wearing out any time soon.The Razer Naga V2 Pro's interchangeable side plates were evaluated across various games, with a focus on the 12-button configuration in World of Warcraft. Non-combat actions like summoning totems, mounting, applying buffs, and using the Hearthstone were mapped to the side buttons. This decluttered the on-screen hotbars, improved visual organization, and allowed for focused attention on combat. Primary attack keys remained on the keyboard for fluid combat, and the tactile side buttons reduced accidental activations, enhancing overall gaming proficiency. There is a bit of a learning curve associated with using the 12-button side plate, but it basically became second nature after just a couple of gameplay sessions.
Testing the Razer Naga V2 Pro across various tasks and games revealed a consistently satisfying experience. For Diablo IV, the six-button side plate was useful for less frequently used damage skills. Likewise, the two-button plate proved ideal for daily work and became my primary choice for games like Marvel Rivals and Destiny 2. Regardless of the task or game, every click and movement felt responsive and lag-free, with the buttons offering appropriate tactile feedback. The mouse tracking was consistently smooth and accurate in all gaming scenarios.
As said prior, the added weight of the Naga V2 Pro wasn't much of an issue for me. It was noticeable at first when compared to my previous mouse, but I quickly adapted to it. Still, those who are super into competitive shooters will probably want one of those ultra-light mice. Given my age and already slowed reaction times, I don't think the weight of a mouse is going to do much to hinder or improve my abilities beyond what they are.
Connectivity and Battery
The Razer Naga V2 Pro can connect wirelessly via their HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4GHz dongle. You can also optionally connect via Bluetooth to supported devices or you can opt for a wired connection via the included USB-A to USB-C cable. I'll say right now that you really won't want to use Bluetooth if you can avoid it. While the 2.4GHz connection and the wired connection both performed nearly identically, the Bluetooth connection felt terrible. I have never had good luck with Bluetooth connections and this was no exception. It will work in a pinch, but for everyday use, stick with the two superior options available to you.Despite its subpar performance in tests, Bluetooth will be the connection type you'll want to use if battery life is of the utmost importance to you. While connected to Bluetooth and with all RGB turned off, Razer states that you can get up to 300 hours of battery life on a single charge. When connected to the 2.4GHz HyperSpeed Wireless, also with all RGB lighting disabled, it is stated that you can get up to about 150 hours of battery life from a single charge.
In my wholly unscientific testing of battery life, I found that I was able to get roughly three days of use out of a single charge with room to spare. This is with the mouse being used off and on through the day, brightness set to 30%, a limit of 10 minutes before lighting turns off, and an idle sleep timer set for 15 minutes. With the mouse being utilized for both work and play, it saw a decent amount of use over a period of about 13 hours each day. While I could always lower some settings to get more use out of a single charge, I did not feel compelled to do so.
When connected either via USB cable or to the 2.4GHz dongle, you get access to a maximum polling rate of 1,000 Hz. This seems to be the sweet spot for polling rates for most people. I really don't see this as much of an issue for probably 99.9% of the people out there. Polling rates above 1,000 Hz are for high-level competitive gamers, which I most certainly am not and I doubt you are either. Razer does sell mice that can get up to 8,000 Hz for polling rates but this is not one of those mice.
The Razer Naga V2 Pro is compatible with the separately sold Razer Mouse Dock Pro, which was provided for review. While optional, the Mouse Dock Pro is a strong recommendation for Naga V2 Pro users. Beyond charging the mouse, it features an integrated transceiver, offering an alternative connection method to your computer and freeing up the USB dongle. The Mouse Dock Pro includes Razer's 8,000 Hz HyperPolling transceiver built into it. However, the Naga V2 Pro itself will operate at its max 1,000 Hz polling rate.
Razer Synapse 4 and Customizations
Razer Synapse 4 is the software used to customize and configure the Naga V2 Pro. It is here where you will customize buttons, DPI, the scrolling, lighting, power options, and more. While you can store up to five customized profiles locally on the Naga V2 Pro, you can essentially create an unlimited number of profiles within Synapse itself. Thanks to the "Linked Games" section in Synapse, you can configure the software to automatically switch to specific custom profiles any time you launch a program. For instance, I have a special profile just for World of Warcraft that kicks in when I launch that game.The first tab of customization for the Naga V2 Pro within Synapse is where you will go to reprogram any of the device's many buttons. As noted previously, almost every button on the mouse can be customized to do basically whatever you want. You also have the ability to customize the buttons for side plates not currently connected to the device, so they're ready to go when you swap to them later.
Next in Synapse is the "Performance" tab, where you will go to configure your different DPI settings. You can have up to five DPI stages set per profile, with the defaults running from 400 DPI to 6,400 DPI. I personally don't need that many DPI settings when doing my day to day activities, so I disabled one and adjusted the remaining four profiles to ones I'm more comfortable with that range from 800 DPI to 2,000 DPI.
By far, the best feature of the Razer Naga V2 Pro is its HyperScroll Pro wheel. Typically, most mice have one or two different modes. For example, the Logitech G502 either has a soft tactile scroll or you can click a physical button on the mouse to allow it to spin freely. Razer takes that idea of a customizable scroll wheel and just gets absolutely nutty with it in all the best ways.
With the Naga V2 Pro and Synapse, you can have six different scrolling modes per profile. This includes five default modes and one custom mode per profile. The default modes include a "Standard" setting, which offers a small bit of resistance when scrolling with a light tactile bump. This would be akin to what you would typically feel on most mice when scrolling. The "Adaptive" setting feels very similar to "Standard" except the tension decreases slightly the faster you scroll. There is a "Distinct" mode that makes that tactile bump a bit more pronounced with the bumps spread out a bit further from one another. The "Ultra-fine" mode delivers moderate resistance while scrolling but bumps the number of scroll steps up to 96. This allows for very fast scrolling while still retaining a bit of a tactile feel. The last of the default modes is the "Smooth Scroll" option, which has zero tension for extremely fast scrolling.
Synapse allows you to also enable an option for scroll acceleration when using the Smooth Scroll setting. This increases the scroll speed the faster you scroll. There is also an option for browser detection that you can optionally enable. This setting will automatically switch to the Smooth Scroll option when you switch to specific programs. For instance, you can have Smooth Scroll kick on automatically whenever you swap to Edge (or Chrome, Firefox, etc.) if you are someone that enjoys a faster scroll when surfing the web but not at any other time. I've never been a huge fan of smooth scroll, so I kept these options disabled.
The final scrolling mode is where the real magic happens. The final mode allows for you to fully customize how scrolling feels. You have total control over the scroll tension from 0 to 100, the number of scroll steps (how many "bumps" you feel per full wheel rotation) from 8 to 96, and even the shape of the tactile bump itself can be fully customized via a graph within Synapse. The graph that is used to customize the tactile bump shape was very confusing to me at first. I really wasn't 100% sure what I was looking at, so I decided to do a bit of research.
Razer teamed up with a company called XeelTech for the technology used in the Naga V2 Pro's HyperScroll Pro Wheel. Thanks to a short animation XeelTech's website, I realized that the graph in Synapse was akin to looking at a side profile of the haptic bumps inside the scroll wheel itself. Once I realized that, it was quite a bit easier to shape the haptics using the graph to get a feel that I enjoy. Truth be told, I actually wanted to replicate the tactile scroll from my old G502 because I just really, really like how that scroll feels and I've gotten very used to it over the years. Once I replicated that tactile feel of the G502 scroll, I upped the tension a small bit and settled on what I would consider my perfect mouse scroll feel.
Obviously, replicating the feel of scroll wheels from other mice probably isn't what Razer hopes people will do with the custom option. With a wealth of customization options, you can fine-tune the scroll wheel's haptics to create highly personalized feedback. For example, you could configure an extremely stiff scroll with a heavy, tactile feel – although its practical appeal is questionable, the option is there. Alternatively, a light, pleasant haptic response with moderate tension is also achievable. The possibilities are extensive. Additionally, the scrolling up and down directions can be independently adjusted, allowing for distinct tension, feedback, and step amounts for each. While the default setting links both directions for identical haptics, separating them enables a unique scrolling experience depending on the direction.
While the customizable scroll wheel haptics are excellent, the inability to fine-tune the pre-set scroll modes is a drawback. Some of these modes are already fantastic but the inability to modify the built-in modes stops them just shy of reaching perfection. The addition of one or two more custom modes per profile would be a valuable enhancement, potentially achievable through a future Synapse software update.
Final Thoughts
The Razer Naga V2 Pro has become my go-to mouse after two weeks of heavy use, primarily due to its remarkable adaptability. The inclusion of three interchangeable side plates caters to various grip styles and game genres, significantly enhancing its versatility. Furthermore, the ability to customize the HyperScroll Pro Wheel provides a nuanced level of control for different tasks. The Focus Pro 30K sensor delivers flawless tracking, and the 2.4GHz wireless connectivity offers a level of responsiveness that feels indistinguishable from a wired setup. Without a doubt, the Razer Naga V2 Pro ranks among the best gaming mice I have ever experienced.That said, the amount of customization features may be a bit too much for many gamers out there. I can easily see a lot of people sticking to using just one or two of the interchangeable side plates. I can also see a lot of people sticking to just one or two DPI options and maybe one or two of the scroll modes. I even reduced the number of DPI options from five to four and disabled all but my custom scroll configuration. I personally think having this amount of customization options and choices are great, but when the mouse alone is priced at $179.99, it may prove to be a bit too expensive for those that won't make use of everything this mouse has to offer.

The review is finished. It's what you just read above. However, I had a few additional thoughts about the review experience itself that I wanted to share with you.First off, I want to extend a huge thank you to McKayla and Colby for everything they did to make this review possible. This includes not only offering the Razer Naga V2 Pro for review, but also fielding some technical questions, responding to several long-winded emails, setting up a return, and throwing in a couple of bonus Razer peripherals. This entire review process began back in late March when I shared news about being able to earn special in-game rewards for World of Warcraft if you purchase select Razer gear. At the time of this review going live, those gifts are still available to acquire through Razer.
That "return" I mentioned above was for the first Naga V2 Pro that was sent to me. I very quickly noticed an issue where the tension in the scroll wheel was wildly inconsistent while scrolling. At first I thought that maybe this was the intended behavior but it was something that became more and more annoying the more I used the mouse. I tried everything from reinstalling Synapse 4, updating the firmware on the mouse and dongle, uninstalling Synapse 4 and installing Synapse 3, and even running without Synapse at all. The issue persisted through it all. I finally sent an email asking about it and if it was intended behavior or not. It was suggested that there is a fault with the first device that I was sent and Razer sent out a replacement Naga V2 Pro and provided me with the means to ship them back the first mouse for testing.
The second mouse I received was like a night and day difference. The second Naga V2 Pro does not have any issues with keeping the proper tension while scrolling. Furthermore, a slight secondary "bump" or hitch I felt when using the horizontal scroll on the wheel was also gone in the second unit. This wasn't even something I thought was an issue with the first mouse, but given that it's not present in the second seems to suggest that the second bump was not intended to be there. Finally, this second unit also has MUCH better battery life than the first unit. I was only able to get a couple of days of use on the first mouse at 10% RGB brightness, idle lighting timeout of 5 minutes, and sleep mode timeout of 10 minutes before it needed to be recharged. The second mouse makes it at least three days at 30% brightness, idle lighting timeout of 10 minutes, and sleep mode timeout of 15 minutes.
I wanted to be fully transparent here about my review experience. I still believe that the Naga Pro V2 is a great mouse. I wouldn't have said so in my review if I thought otherwise. However, you may want to be aware of potential issues. As I understand it, Razer offers a 14-day no questions asked return policy and a two-year limited warranty (can extend to three-years if you add $29.99 for their RazerCare Elite when purchasing).
I also want to talk a bit more about the Synapse 4 and Chroma software. While you don't need either piece of software to use the Naga V2 Pro, you will lose out on a lot of the functionality of the mouse without it. While using Synapse 4, there were times when the Synapse tab for the Naga V2 Pro just didn't load. The tab was simply blank. There were other times where the mouse lighting failed to return after waking from idle or sleep. These issues were remedied by exiting both Synapse 4 and Razer Chroma and restarting them. The same issue with lighting failing to return after idle happened with the BlackWidow V4 Mini Hyperspeed keyboard that Razer also kindly sent me (a review for this is coming soon). Both the mouse and keyboard still functioned, but the lighting or lighting effects did not function properly.
I think that I found a workaround for my Synapse and lighting issues, or at the very least a way to mitigate the problems. First, I increased the amount of time before both the mouse and keyboard turn off lighting and enter a sleep state. Second, I connected both devices to their own dedicated 2.4GHz dongles. For some reason, when I had multiple devices connected to one wireless dongle, a feature supported and endorsed by Razer, it seemed to result in the RGB effects failing to return more often after waking from idle. Now, knock on wood, ever since I made these changes I have not run into the issue of lighting failing to return after idle.
With how the lighting properly returned after exiting and restarting Synapse and Chroma, I can only assume this is a software issue and nothing related to hardware. It also didn't happen consistently, so reliably replicating the issue is difficult. Still, I can only hope that these issues will eventually be resolved in future app updates.
While RGB problems were a nuisance, they didn't significantly affect the final review because the mouse's core functionality worked flawlessly. Furthermore, as I am just a sample size of one, it would be inappropriate to draw conclusions about overall quality control. However, if the replacement mouse had repeated the scroll wheel issues of the initial unit, this would have had a much greater negative impact on the review score.
Anyway, I think all that I wanted to say both here and in the review. I truly do enjoy this mouse despite the hiccups I've encountered. This is actually the first wireless mouse that I own and it's definitely a keeper. That reminds me: The fact that this is a wireless mouse means that I can quickly move my mouse away when my cat hops on my desk demanding attention or looking to cause trouble. I've lost track of how many times she's pulled my old wired mouse off my mousepad or stepped on the mouse and clicked away from what I was working on.
The next hardware related review will be for another Razer product, the BlackWidow V4 Mini Hyperspeed keyboard. I was also sent the Mouse Dock Pro and the Mouse Bungee V3 Chroma. I quite like the Mouse Dock Pro and the Mouse Bungee is nice to have to help tame my USB cable situation. However, I will not be doing reviews on those accessories.
