11 bit studios announced a "new" Frostpunk title today. The game is called Frostpunk 1886 and it's a "project that revisits and expands upon the beloved city-builder and society survival experiences of the original Frostpunk, now fully reimagined in Unreal Engine."
11 bit studios says that the engine they have been using, Liquid Engine, is no longer in development. The studio used this engine for the original Frostpunk as well as This War of Mine. The team does note that this "is no mere visual overhaul."
11 bit studios says that they will be building upon the core of the original game and expanding it with new content, mechanics, laws, and a new Purpose path.
Worry not Frostpunk 2 fans, the team is still supporting that game with free content updates, a console launch, and DLCs. Perhaps the biggest thing to be added in Frostpunk 1886 is official mod support.
Frostpunk 1886 is expected to be out in 2027. It has been in development since early 2025. As such, there isn't really much to show for this one just yet. Look forward to more information and actual screenshots in the months ahead.
