  • First Gameplay for The Last Caretaker

    New livestreams promised every week.

Channel37 showed off the first look at gameplay for their upcoming "first-person survival action-adventure" title, The Last Caretaker. The game was first revealed during last week's IGN Fan Fest, with a gameplay capture shown off shortly after.

The Last Caretaker is set in a "world of endless oceans where only remnants of humanity remain." The gameplay footage, seen below, show off the game's first area, which is "a derelict docking station where the titular robotic protagonist suddenly awakes from dormancy."

Starting on March 12th, Channel37 will host a weekly livestream. These will take place every Wednesday at 1PM ET via Twitch. These streams will offer developer commentary, new footage, and new details about The Last Caretaker ahead of the game's planned release this summer.

Those streams and the initial gameplay reveal, seen below, are hosted by Channel37 community manager Jack Pattillo. You may recognize Pattillo from his former work at Rooster Teeth, specifically the Achievement Hunter division within Rooster Teeth.

The world has changed. An endless ocean stretches in every direction, its surface broken by the last remnants of those who stayed behind. Machines still hum with forgotten purpose, beacons flicker with old signals, and infrastructure continues its silent operations. But something else stirs — technology repurposed, reshaped to drift in silence.

As the Last Caretaker, a player must navigate this vast ocean, scavenging lost knowledge, reactivating dormant systems, and ensuring the survival of humanity’s final remnants. Deep within the Seed Vaults, the last human embryos wait for their journey to the stars. But not all that remains is dormant. Some machines still whisper, still move, still watch.

Key Features of The Last Caretaker:
    • Create: Scavenge valuable resources to repair critical systems, upgrade your robotic capabilities, and craft tools essential for maintaining your operational capabilities. Every system you restore and every decision you make defines your purpose.
    • Explore: If a place looks explorable — above or below the ocean — it is. Weathered megastructures, decayed platforms, and forgotten stations still cling to purpose. These aren’t just set pieces, they’re real locations with a history.
    • Discover: Every structure contains a narrative thread to the past and fragments of human history. If a place feels like it’s hiding a secret, it probably is.
    • Nurture: Survival isn’t just about food. Human life is shaped by memories. Rebuild them, and you rebuild humanity itself.
    • Survive: The ocean is beautiful, but it is not safe. Rogue machines, biomechanical threats, and unknown forces seek to disrupt your mission. Navigate this world at your own pace, as a resource as simple as light can be your weapon and fear a guide to live another day.
