  • Newly Announced Turok Game is Probably Going to Upset Fans of the Original

A new Turok is coming but with some major design changes.
Text in top right: Turok Origins. Image shows three human warriors and various angry dinosaurs.

At The Game Awards, Saber Interactive revealed Turok: Origins to a surprise audience. This would be the latest in the franchise that began about 30 years ago with the Nintendo 64 title, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. Traditionally, the Turok franchise has been a first-person shooter experience. You would be going in alone against some real angry dinosaurs using a mix of older weaponry and sci-fi futuristic weapons.

Well, Turok: Origins seems to mark a pretty big departure from the older titles. Origins will be a third-person shooter that can either be played solo or cooperatively with up to three players.

Turok: Origins will be a revival of the "franchise's action and spirit" but with a new look, new story, and obvious new gameplay mechanics. You will play as one of the "fierce Turok warriors" as they battle against "ferocious dinosaurs and a terrifying alien threat that seeks to destroy all human life in the galaxy." There will be various weapons and abilities that can be used, and upgrades can be created using the DNA from fallen enemies.

Saber Interactive CEO and co-founder Matthew Karch says that Turok "was at the top of our list" on franchises that they felt "deserved to be brought back."

While no release date was announced, we do know that Turok: Origins is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

I like how they can't reboot Turok with a game called "Turok" because there's already a reboot of Turok with a game called Turok.

I think you probably had to be a console gamer when the original games were popular, but I never really saw the appeal.

For me it was the game you put on for a few minutes so you can see the cerebral bore do its thing, the levels were too long and tedious to actually finish the games i even tried with the remasters but you've got to have so much patience... that cerebral bore though...
