October 22 is a pretty big day for Alan Wake 2. Not only will the game's second DLC, The Lake House, be released but so too will a free Anniversary Update for all players. Developer Remedy Entertainment says that the Anniversary Update is the "biggest addition to quality of life and accessibility options to the game to date." This update will add in some of the more frequently requested features by the community.
Apparently, the community has been pretty vocal about adding in an option to invert the X (horizontal ) access on both a mouse and controller. Well, that's now going to be an option available to you with this update. Also of note is the addition of gyro aiming via the DualSense controller on PlayStation 5. The DualSense also has additional improvements to haptics and will now kick in for healing items and throwables in addition to firing weapons.
The Anniversary Update will also get a Gameplay Assist menu. Remedy says that the following options will be included in this new Gameplay Assist menu:
- Quick turn
- Auto complete QTE
- Button tapping to single tap
- Weapon charging with taps
- Healing items with taps
- Lightshifter with taps
- Player invulnerability
- Player immortality
- One shot kill
- Infinite ammo
- Infinite flashlight batteries
As far as The Lake House is concerned, here is the latest trailer for that expansion. You will play as Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) agent Kiran Estevez after "a catastrophic event" occurs at the FBC research station named Lake House, located on the shores of Cauldron Lake.
Remedy has flatly called The Lake House "a return to survival horror." You'll probably understand why once you watch the trailer.
The Lake House is an entirely new location which our teams have crafted specifically for this expansion. While those of keen eyesight may have noticed FBC warning signs posted up around Cauldron Lake in Alan Wake 2 – and a chain link fence preventing entrance to an interesting looking area – this is the first time you will be able to enter the facility. While the events of The Lake House take place towards the beginning of the game, you can access the expansion from the main menu at any time, or during the mission “Scratch” by asking Estevez about the Lake House. We hope this expansion will be a delight to play for all you theory-crafters out there.
You can get hints from our trailer above – repeated watching is recommended if you want to catch all the little details we’ve included in there. For example, there’s ████████, a gruesome new type of enemy with which Agent Estevez will come head to paint-dripping toe.
Players will also get a chance to wield a brand new weapon that can be found in the Lake House. We would love to say more, but it’s ████████.
You will have met Kiran Estevez, the dedicated FBC field agent, during the events of Alan Wake 2, but in The Lake House expansion you get the chance to play as her. Making Estevez a playable character gave us the perfect opportunity to view the strange phenomena of Cauldron Lake through the lens of the Federal Bureau of Control – we hope you enjoy the result, as well as further glimpses this offers into the Remedy Connected Universe.
