IO Interactive just announced that they have struck an agreement with Build a Rocket Boy, the new studio founded by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies. This deal will see IO Interactive publishing and distributing MindsEye, an upcoming "cinematic AAA, story-driven action-adventure thriller" in development from Build A Rocket Boy.
To help with this publishing deal, IO Interactive created the IOI Partners publishing division. This division will help studios with global publishing, marketing, localization, distribution, QA, and game support.
While at Rockstar, Benzies was a producer and executive producer on a number of titles including nearly all of the Grand Theft Auto series, Manhunt games, L.A. Noire, and Max Payne 3. Benzies was apparently forced out of Rockstar after taking a 17-month sabbatical. In 2016, Benzies sued Rockstar Games claiming $150 million in unpaid royalties. In February 2019 Benzies and Rockstar settled the lawsuit for an undisclosed amount.
