Destiny is now ten years old. The first game released on September 9, 2014 back on the ancient PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms. The series sure has had its many ups and many downs but it's somehow lasted long enough to reach this 10 year anniversary milestone.
This 10-year anniversary celebration includes things like nostalgic in-game armor, various physical items, neat artwork, and the first details on Codename: Frontiers. Frontiers being the future of Destiny 2.
Bungie's plans for the future of Destiny 2 shakes things up once again. Those Episodes that Bungie debuted with this current year of content? Well, they're gone already. Instead, Bungie now plans to release two medium-sized expansions each year and four major free content updates. That is, there will be two major content updates dropped per expansion, for a total of four content updates each year.
Bungie says that "this evolution aims to enhance the player experience through a new multi-year saga, introducing a non-linear story, more systemic innovation, and significant improvements to core game activities and rewards." The first of these new releases is currently called Codename Apollo and it will be released in the summer of 2025. Apollo will be a new "non-linear character-driven adventure." Take that for what you will.
Bungie also say that they are "committed to ongoing dialogue with the Destiny 2 community and will be releasing a series of Developer Insight Deep Dives" in the months ahead.
As for the here and now, Bungie is celebrating Destiny's 10 years by offering a new set of armor for each class. This armor is inspired by the original concept designs for the first Destiny. These armor sets can be found right now by searching around the Tower in the Lost City within the Pale Heart.
Additionally, players that own The Final Shape can earn the Legend Title in Destiny 2 by completing various objectives, including completing The Final Shape Legendary campaign, wearing the anniversary armor set during ritual activities, exploring the Pale Heart for new objectives, and more. Those that earn the Legend Title before September 24 will be granted early access to purchase the NERF LMTD Destiny 2 Ace of Spades Blaster before it's officially released on October 8. Those that do spend their real money on this will also get the in-game ornament for Ace of Spades at no extra charge. If you don't buy the physical NERF gun and still want the ornament, it will be sold separately through the Eververse store. Other physical celebration items from Bungie coming over the next few weeks include apparel, drinkware, statues, and more.
Bungie has also partnered with ArtStation for the "Bungie 10 Year Destiny Art Blast" collection. This is an online showcase of the work of 67 artists that have contributed "to the shaping of the universe of Destiny." There is also the "Destiny 10th Anniversary Art Show" that will be touring around the world. This tour features art prints and paintings, Ghost sculptures, props, merch that you can buy, and more.
